Ya, I agree. Mukainakano is a very good prospect and should reach juryo within the next year or two, but I doubt Raiho will get past makushita. That said, several of Hak's guys have done better than I expected, so who knows.

Conservatively I think Raihō will at least make jūryō. He's better than Enhō in not being as reliant on that submarine tachiai and shitatedashinage, and seems to already have some knowledge of judo techniques, so he's more well-rounded in that respect, but he didn't make the same storming entrance into sumo that Enhō did. Agreed that size is still a bit of a problem, especially as he's a rather mature entrant and can't be expected to pack on the pounds much more, and the real test for him is in makushita.

He didn't make a dent in openweight sumo in college, just makes me hesitant to predict him ever reaching sekitorihood. There are lots of skilled little guys out there like him who look flashy against limited opposition but just can't pull it off vs bigger and better guys. I think he's more of that type than an Enho, Ura, or Midorifuji, all of whom significantly outperformed him in the amateurs as well.

As I said though, many of Hak's prospects go to a new level, so you might end up being right.

sumodb has him at Makushita with Hanafusa replacing his spot. Honestly no clue what's right

At first glance, it does indeed look like the Kyokai's website and Sumodb got Hanafusa and Wakanosho swapped around.

Logic would have it that it's Sumodb who got it right.

For the kyokai version to be accurate, it'd have to mean Wakanosho was the first sd33 6w in 50 years not to get promoted, whereas makushita promotions from Hanafusa's sd14 4w are exceedingly rare and the only time it's happened in the last 30 years was due to the yaocho purge..

Both English and Japanese NSK pages have Wakanosho at ms51, the DB gets the data from there, so logic would have it that the NSK is right

Just checked again and that is indeed the case now - they must've fixed it in the meantime.
