Hidenotora Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 https://www.sumo.or.jp/IrohaKyokaiInformation/detail?id=541 The Fuji TV event is cancelled it seems. 1
Seiyashi Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 They are literally down over half of the sekitori (29 makuuchi and 15 juryo), either directly or indirectly, so the tournament wouldn't have much meaning.

The tournament has never had any meaning. It is a made-for-TV event. The rikishi show up with no or minimal bracing or bandages and put on several phony showtime matches. Someone is declared the winner, and they all go home. Edited February 5, 2022 by Asojima
Seiyashi Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Just now, Asojima said: The tournament has never had any meaning. It is made-for-TV event. The rikishi show up with no or minimal bracing or bandages, and put on several phony showtime matches. Someone is declared the winner, and they all go home. Well, even less meaning than usual... As in it wouldn't be worth going through the rigmarole for a pared-down schedule missing most of the sanyaku, since your kanban rikishi are out - not so much meaning in the honbasho sense.

Next thing you're gonna say there's no Santa Claus? Blasphemy! Also, whoever wins the air con or other prizes up for grabs certainly will find a lot of meaning in it this August - or every August, for that matter. Now someone has to shell out for a new air con when summer hits 1
Akinomaki Posted February 6, 2022 Author Posted February 6, 2022 Funny that YT is full of those phony live broadcasts of the FujiTV tournament
Seiyashi Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 https://www.sumo.or.jp/IrohaKyokaiInformation/detail?id=543 The NHK charity sumo has also been cancelled. 1
