A jungyo will be held after Nagoya basho, it was announced today. It will be the first jungyo since November 2019. No dates or venues announced yet.

So after 3 years we'll have a proper jungyo thread again.

On August 14th the jungyo will be in Kasukabe, Saitama, the first there was in 2018 natsu-jungyo-2018. Kasukabe basho action committee related people met on the 4th in the city hall. http://kasukabe.keizai.biz/headline/552/

Jungyo man Edagawa was on tour, after a long break this familiar face again

All makuuchi rikishi on the Nagoya basho banzuke are scheduled to take part

Aug 5: Tachikawa, Tokyo
Aug 6: Funabashi, Chiba
Aug 7: Saitama, Saitama
Aug 11: Koga, Ibaraki
Aug 14: Kasukabe, Saitama

The posters have quite a standard this jungyo, Funabashi and Saitama have the same basic design as Kasukabe above

The 2 Saitama pref. jungyo have exactly the same group on the posters, Funabashi has Chiba local Kotonowaka instead of Saitama local Abi.

Tachikawa has the same Shodai and Mitakeumi

Only Koga has something different

rikishi_1.png

and they have sold out https://anfini.co.jp/hoiku/topics/2022531_sumokoga.html

Tatsunami is the responsible for that jungyo and was at the press conference end of May

More rikishi, gyoji and tokoyama have been found positive to the virus, announced Shibatayama Oyakata today. "There are even small heyas where everyone was found positive. Still, we are not talking about postponing or canceling at this stage. All those participating will undergo daily antigen tests," he added.

It seems it will go ahead - though the way Covid is going here nothing is certain.

Heard with the amount of cases, Chris Gould will get a shot against the Yokozuna. Reward for winning? Channel being taken down for copyright...

Not only in sumo, but in general Japan isn't closing anything down (so far) due to the latest surge. Trips are scheduled to happen as usual, no mention of even the half-assed state of emergency (manbo or whatever it was called), etc.

Wow, 5 locations all on the same day.

so everyone gets 1/5 of the rikishi and torikumi?

If they government delegates to the prefectural government themselves, instead of asking them to bureacratically asking the central government for emergency declaration powers. A lot of the jungyo activities can be limited by the governors.

Nishikifuji and Terutsuyoshi are among those kyujo, the article says including those who were in contact, but Terunofuji is not listed, so really no longer the whole heya now. Takarafuji in the dohyo-iri then, he was in a pic.

No Juryo participants this time. No handshakes, no baby embracing.

Funny because I can see Chiyosakae in the media photos.
