I'm sure that with the lack of people with a strong promotion case that he was saved anyway like you say, but 2-13 makes for better numbers and cushioning his fall versus a 1-14 Yes, that's true in general, but we have the luxury of also knowing the Makushita promotion picture in general as well. He wasn't in any danger at all because there's not enough pressure based on how many people would have still been ahead of him if he had lost. There might even be a thread where people talk about this subject on this forum. Edited January 23, 2022 by Gurowake
Katooshu Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) Mukainakano and Kotoshoho win playoffs Let's see if Kotoshoho can settle into makuuchi this time Edited January 23, 2022 by Katooshu

'Twas brilliant, and wonderful to watch him make it look almost effortless against a (relatively) huge opponent in Kagayaki. He's quite the scrappy fighter, the diminutive one, no to mention him being obviously well versed in techniques. Maybe a judo background? Imagine if he had more size to work with. Regardless, I'm a fan, and hope he'll be sekitori for many years to come. 1
WAKATAKE Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 That's got to hurt for Oho, from 7-3 to 7-8 and back to Juryo. 1
Kashunowaka Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 What was the point with Myogiryu's return for two final bouts? 1

Eikokurai Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Now that was an excellent bout that lived up to its billing! Superb effort from both. Abi takes the win, but Kotonowaka can hold his head high. A fantastic fight. 2
Godango Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Spectacular match in Kotonowaka vs. Abi. The young bloke can hold his head up high after that effort, very nearly had him. 1
Thorbjarn Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Oh Thor, Odin, Freyr, God, Jesus, Jahwe, Allah, Shiva or whoever... that was insane between Abi and Kotonowaka.
WAKATAKE Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Now Abi plays the waiting game, and guaranteed either a sole jun-yusho, the yusho in the playoff or doten
Benihana Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 THAT was fun. Abi = next Ozeki after Mitakeumi.

The clash of Titans? Hoshoryu (goes 11-4) is another lad that looks like a legitimate prospect to move up. Edited January 23, 2022 by robnplunder
Rocks Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 WTH was Aoiyama thinking? He sets up over the line and then goes right to a belt match against Hoshoryu?
Eikokurai Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 11-4 for Hoshoryu too. His best basho to date, yet no sansho ...

Kaninoyama Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Abi follows up a 12-3 junyusho last basho with a 12-3.....?
Thorbjarn Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 ... and at least a Jun Yusho aswell. Maybe the suspension was a good thing, the extra bulk surely helps his sumo it feels like. 1

I don't think he thinks much. OTHO, Hoshoryu was probably thinking 3 moves ahead. I don't know if this win was enough to get a Sanyuku spot.
Kashunowaka Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Ishiura gives the finger to the sansho committee by easily disposing of M3e Tamawashi and finishing 11-4. 1
Eikokurai Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 11-4 for Ishiura too. Also his best basho in Makuuchi. Also no sansho ...
Rocks Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Yeah, a lot of short changing on sansho this basho.
Katooshu Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) Eh, he's a makuuchi veteran and only beat 1 opponent higher than M8. Wasn't a serious contender in the yusho race either. Good stuff but no big deal he didn't get a sansho. Not everyone who performs well is going to get one. Edited January 23, 2022 by Katooshu
Eikokurai Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Seventh makekoshi in a row for Tochinoshin. Didn't someone say that was a record last time for Kagayaki? 1
