True, but sometimes with the ways the banzuke goes, you never know. I'm sure that with the lack of people with a strong promotion case that he was saved anyway like you say, but 2-13 makes for better numbers and cushioning his fall versus a 1-14

Yes, that's true in general, but we have the luxury of also knowing the Makushita promotion picture in general as well.  He wasn't in any danger at all because there's not enough pressure based on how many people would have still been ahead of him if he had lost.  There might even be a thread where people talk about this subject on this forum.

Vintage katatsukashi by Midorifuji against Kagayaki.

'Twas brilliant, and wonderful to watch him make it look almost effortless against a (relatively) huge opponent in Kagayaki. He's quite the scrappy fighter, the diminutive one, no to mention him being obviously well versed in techniques. Maybe a judo background? Imagine if he had more size to work with. Regardless, I'm a fan, and hope he'll be sekitori for many years to come.

What was the point with Myogiryu's return for two final bouts?

Maybe he thought he needed one more win for safety, although 5 wins at M10 looks enough to me.

Sure, but I have seldom seen a rikishi so not ready to get back into the dohyo. (Goingkyujo...)

Now that was an excellent bout that lived up to its billing! Superb effort from both.

Abi takes the win, but Kotonowaka can hold his head high. A fantastic fight.

Spectacular match in Kotonowaka vs. Abi. The young bloke can hold his head up high after that effort, very nearly had him.

They both looked good.  Abi definitely has gotten stronger, and more balanced since his return from the abyss.

Oh Thor, Odin, Freyr, God, Jesus, Jahwe, Allah, Shiva or whoever... that was insane between Abi and Kotonowaka.

The clash of Titans?

Hoshoryu (goes 11-4) is another lad that looks like a legitimate prospect to move up.

WTH was Aoiyama thinking? He sets up over the line and then goes right to a belt match against Hoshoryu?

That's got to hurt for Oho, from 7-3 to 7-8 and back to Juryo.

Ugh. I missed that. Damn. Hopefully he can turn it into a learning experience.

I don't think he thinks much.  ;-)   OTHO, Hoshoryu was probably thinking 3 moves ahead.  I don't know if this win was enough to get a Sanyuku spot.

Eh, he's a makuuchi veteran and only beat 1 opponent higher than M8. Wasn't a serious contender in the yusho race either. Good stuff but no big deal he didn't get a sansho.

Not everyone who performs well is going to get one.
