If you are talking about that Nikkan Sports article, I think he was just interviewed on the backlog of danpatsushiki caused by COVID-19. The article makes no mention of he himself being infected.

Terunofuji vs Ichinojo was fun to watch. Terunofuji may well be on road for a Zensho Yusho, he looks unbeatable. Abi gets the next eliminator, but then he will be facing the Sanyaku I assume.

Still notable that so many have the exact same record. This isn’t the first basho with a healthy sanyaku in all of sumo history!

A quick db query shows this is only the sixth time, and first in more than five years, that seven guys in the ranks Sekiwake through to M5 have 4-7 after 11 days, so this is an unusually high number.

If Takakeisho and Terunofuji end up in another playoff, that'll be kinda awesome. 

Edit: Like, it's already happened several times. And if it becomes their 'thing' I'd be totally okay with that.

So after 11 days of sumo, there are only two wrestlers left in the Makushita Division with perfect records: 

Chiyonoumi Ms33e and Ryuden Ms47w

Bit of a gap in the rankings (not too big, mind), but I would definitely not be surprised if the torikumi team pits these two in their final regulation bout of the tournament, thereby avoiding all need for a playoff in that division.  And if these two do end up going head-to-head, the odds-on favourite has to be Ryuden!

Pairing them on day 13 is pretty much guaranteed, no?

That's a TINY gap in the rankings for 6-0 rikishi.  I don't see how your words are meant to imply that it's small rather than large.  Chiyonoumi is ranked really low for the highest ranked 6-0 in Ms.

Right, "the joi" is nebulous enough that one can pick different rank ranges to include.

Pairing the last two 6-0's is pretty much an every basho sort of thing, and just two basho ago we had Ms2 vs Ms56.

Well it's official: M15w Abi is going to face Ozeki Takakeisho on tomorrow day 13.  Do I dare say that that is a pretty huge gap in the Top Division?  Makujiri-adjacent vs second highest ranker.  Both men have 10-1 records prior to their day 12 bouts.  It's what I would describe as a culling...

That bout decision was somewhat questionable IMHO.  It looked to me that Hoshoryu expected a monoii, but none was forthcoming.  Not sure if it was a time thing, sympathy for Daieisho being on the edge of a makekoshi, or the judges felt like snubbing Asashoryu.  At the end of the day, the judges must have been confident that Hoshoryu was out before Daieisho.  My question is: how was that oshitaoshi, if Hoshoryu stayed on his feet?!!!
