Henka?  Et tu, Mitakeumi?   At least, Enho had no choice.

The most savage part about it is that because of their personal history, Wakatakakage's inability to beat him, etc., he almost surely knew Waktaktakakage wouldn't / couldn't henka him (because it would appear so blatantly desperate and dishonorable). Ruthless.

This reminds me of a professor I had who wore the same pants-and-shirt combo for every lecture.  We couldn't decide whether:

a) he wore the same combo every day.

b) he washed the same set every day.

c) he had a wardrobe of identical pants and shirts, and he pulled a fresh set off the rack every day.

Which do you think is happening here?

Perhaps he just did that thing tech entrepreneurs have made famous and just owned loads of the same outfit so he never had to choose what to wear and could avoid “decision fatigue”. I do that on holidays. I fill my suitcase with black trousers, black shorts and about a dozen white T-shirts. Never have to worry about making outfits that go together.

Terunofuji seems in the driver's seat now, but still 6 days left and some dangerous opponents to come, don't think it's over yet! Takayasu looks like someone he will struggle with for a while.....glad that Teru could pull that one off.

Hokutofuji may never be the next ozeki, but I love his spirit in there.

I've worn the same thing by accident on successive weeks (washed in the interim, of course), but most of my wardrobe is also in the same colour scheme so b/c would happen pretty frequently.

They threatened to take away our uniforms at an old job. I liked them because I'm lazy and it made morning easy. I threatened back to get seven identical pilot shirts and khakis and monogram the days of the week on them. I also said I wouldn't be very conscientious about what day I wore when. Might be part of why we kept uniforms the rest of my time there.

Just for the record, he has worn it every single day this tournament (i.e., 9 days straight). (Eek...)

I know a few people who do c).

Can understand that but I'd like Hakuho to come back for one final basho and put everyone in their place reminding us of how great he's been.

I would be OK with that too! Just as long as there's a Hakuho at somewhat-kinda decent strength involved.

Terunofuji's match against Takayasu was very impressive today I feel, because for most of that match I was expecting Terunofuji to get knocked down. He was very low and forward for most of it and it seemed like he was gonna get hatakikomi'd several times. To keep yourself upright against such a tricky wrestler as Takayasu in such a good position was very nice to see.

We've got six days to go. Tomorrow he's against Kiribayama. Obviously he'll be going up against the other three Ozeki. So that leaves two more matches out of the following people:

With Chiyonokuni out and Aoiyama not really having anything to play for, most likely Onosho, Ichinojo or Myogiryu will be the ones facing him.

Only Takakeisho and Onosho look to be able to beat him.

The M6's and M7's match his style and would be easy victimes. Myougiryu is 3-12 against him. No stopping Teru I am affraid...

I think so too. I'd be surprised if they put Aoiyama against him, although I would like to see that since I like his sumo.

Onosho is 4-1 against Terunofuji, has beaten him the last 2 tournaments, and is in good form this basho. He's definitely a threat.

Takakeisho is always a threat

Losses can come when unexpected too...such as last basho's defeat to Shimanoumi

He's in a strong position, because aside from him losing the other rikishi have to not slip up themselves-- but a lot can happen in 6 days.

Veteran Shohozan handed Ura a costly loss today.  More importantly, he showed others an effective strategy against Ura: swat him repeatedly on the head to keep him away, and prevent from using his go-to ashitori leg pick move.

So Ura dropped into a four-way tie of leaders in the Juryo championship race.  We will probably see a more exciting finish in that Division, as Terunofuji is starting to run away with the Top Division championship like a freight train with knee and elbow braces.

Hi all, is it correct that as Terunofuji’s yusho at the March tourney counted towards his Ozeki promotion, it can’t count to a Tsuna run?

Anosmia, a trait which you share with British poet William Wordsworth.

To COVID, expense and general health problems, I now add another reason to avoid any in-person get-togethers of Sumo Forum denizens.

That's the general thought.  It hasn't happened in modern times that someone has won the Yusho to get promoted to Ozeki and then won the next Yusho as well, but it was the case back in the day for Futabayama, during his record winning streak, needed to win another Yusho at Ozeki to be promoted.  The YDC have not, in reality, suggested that he could be promoted this basho, which normally has to be the case for them to even consider it.

If he does win this tournament, and then the tournament right after it too, it'll be one heck of an impressive and deserved Yokozuna promotion, though: jun-yusho, jun-yusho, yusho, yusho, yusho. Now I'm wondering what the most decorated Yokozuna run of all time is?

http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query.aspx?show_form=0&columns=6&n_basho=6&rowcount=2&show_sansho=on&show_total=on&form5_rank=Ozeki&form6_rank=Yokozuna&sort_basho=1

If we consider your criteria of the last 5 basho before promotion, then i think it is Takanohana. Although Kisenosato, Wajima, Asashoryu and Chiyonofuji also had good runs.
