Maybe I have missed it on the forums, but were there any words on sansho?

Okinoumi had a really bad Basho. Four MK in a row, two of those double digit... Doesn't bode well...

Terunofuji shukunsho

Wakatakakage ginosho (conditional on win over Hokutofuji, which he just did)

Meisei kantosho (conditional on win over Tsurugisho, which he did)

Takayasu/Aoiyama kantosho (whoever wins)

Daieisho and Mitakeumi win their 7-7 matches today. So no changes in the sanyaku and a denial to Hokutofuji and Wakatakakage: If Takanosho loses, Takayasu and Mitakeumi will be East and West Sekiwake on the next banzuke, with Daieisho and Takanosho the komusubi in some order (probably East and West in the stated order). If Takanosho wins, then Takayasu and Takanosho will be the East and West Sekiwake, with Mitakeumi and Daieisho the East and West komusubi respectively.

I really love Mitakeumi, I'm totally convinced that he decided a long time a go that Ozeki would be too much hassle - he's a genius at 'just doing enough'. Such talent who looks like he can't be arsed. :-D

It would be nice if he decided not to torpedo the other ozeki's hopes in the process, if he can't be arsed to be ozeki himself.

In other news, Aoiyama might have an outside chance at the yusho after Takayasu completed a choke for the ages to lose 4 of his last 7. As it is, Aoiyama already goes back home with the kantosho, his fourth.

Tahaysu pulled down by Aoiyama. Doesn't even get a sansho. Pathetic.

Somehow I envision Araiso and Takayasu drowning their sorrows in a long heart to heart surrounded by loads of empty mugs after today.

'Torpedo'? If they ain't good enough to beat him ... that's not Mita's fault. They need to work harder or slack better. :-P

Takanosho secures his own sekiwake rank with a mighty pushout of Tochinoshin. So Takayasu will take Terunofuji's vacated sekiwake slot, and Mitakeumi and Daieisho will slide over with 8-7 records both; a nominal "promotion".

That's not a choke, that's a downright collapse. It was in November 2018 when Takayasu lost a dramatic final day bout to Mitakeumi who was already MK. Takayasu missed out on a playoff with Takakeisho and looked distraught. But the last few days was way more painful to me than that one moment.

Takanosho gets KK and gives every banzuke creator a headache. No wiggle-room in sanyaku at all and three strong performances from high Maegashira ranks.

I keep forgetting how good Takanosho has been lately, for some reason I find it hard to shake the memories of him in juryo even though he's gotten 3 straight sekiwake KKs and KK'd in 7 of his last 8 makuuchi tournaments.

Nah, no headache. Sanyaku straightens itself out with 4 ozeki and 2 junior ranks each, instead of 3-2-3. Wakatakakage and Hokutofuji M1e and M1w in that order. Meisei goes up to M2e. Tough luck, but at the top end of the banzuke availability counts for more than above-average but not great results.

If they really want to force the issue, Wakatakakage and Hokutofuji will go and get 11+ wins next basho (which they should, arguably being amongst the same slate of competition as this basho). If they do, K2 is guaranteed even if the current sanyaku stays in place.

Wow, Takakeisho almost had him. Congrats to Terunofuji on the yusho!

Here we go!!

Valiant effort by Takakeisho, but it just wasn't enough, even with an attempt at tottari. We end the tournament on a bit of a damp squib with an immaterial match, but next to Terunofuji, Takakeisho has acquitted himself second-best amonst all the sanyaku. Very impressive to go from 4-3 before nakabi to be in a position to dictate the yusho; speaks volumes as to his mental fortitude.

I' d think Meisei would be ahead of Hokutofuji?

Then Hokutofuji would be stuck at M2e with 9-6, which is an even greater injustice than him and Wakatakakage not getting junior sanyaku slots.
