Afaik, there is no dohyo-iri planned, only a run with the torch. And I am pretty sure he will do it even if retired.

Hey, perhaps they will let Hakuho run the torch?  :-D

Which yokozuna opened the Nagano Winter Olympics?  (Scratchingchin...)

Akebono, who was a Japanese citizen by then. Takanohana was kyujo at the time.

Wow, those names take me back! I lived in Japan from October 1998 for nearly two years, so most of those names were staples on my time there. It’s so interesting to remember a time before Wakanohana and Musashimaru were Yokozuna, Kaio was ozeki, and when Musoyama was still active.

The postponed Tokyo Olympics will be "scrapped" if they cannot take place in 2021, says Games chief Yoshiro Mori.

Hope the pandemic over just in time

If that indeed happens, we are in far more trouble than just missing one event ...

It sounds like with the current pandemic climate, Hakuho will have the chance to mend some old wounds and get his body feeling much better so that he can continue through next year. I hope he does find a way to alleviate the injuries/strain on his body as I would imagine he must be in quite a bit of pain from all of his years in sumo.

Covid or not, as a yokozuna, he can choose to sit out two (or more) bashos with no penalty.  Two bashos would give him six months of healing time.

Agreed. Ten months in the bacta tank shall work wonders.
