39 degree temperature. He was in close contact at his danpatsushiki and Tochiouzan's as well, with a lot of people and rikishi. "Doing sumo with them doesn't mean he was in close contact with them.. If he was without a mask in the shitakubeya and talked to people, well, we'll have to investigate that, " said Shibatayama. All those who came in contact with him will undergo PCR and antigen tests.

2 matches between Mitakeumi & Terunofuji, including one long tsuridashi from the middle of the dohyo(from 12 o clock, marched to 7 o clock and out; god knows how many seconds they were grappling beforehand). Imagine how many breathes he took to do that last one. With Mitakeumi exhaling into his face.

Shibatayama about Mitakeumi tested positive for Corona: "We have to hold it back here, events have to be performed". On the 5th there is Yoshikaze's danpatsushiki in the kokugikan and the next day the FujiTV tournament. http://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXZQOKC31B1D0R30C22A1000000/

I guess he caught it at his ozeki promotion party, quite a number of people to investigate there

Michinoku (Kakuryu) and one gyoji, from an unidentified heya (could be Michinoku as well, but my Japanese isn't good enough to parse it for subtleties. On the other hand, if it was Michinoku, they could have just said so, and it's also implied that the rikishi from Michinoku and the gyoji's heya are treated separately, so it's probably not Michinoku).

It's definitely a different heya, since Michinoku has no gyoji.

The good news is that there's plenty of time for M, T, and any others (was Goeido's danpatsu-shiki a superspreader event?) to recover fully and not be contagious by Osaka.

Breaking!

Several rikishi confirmed infected with Covid-19 including:

  • Daiesho
  • Tobizaru
  • Tsurugisho
  • Aoiyama
  • Takanosho

Was this as a result of the danpatsushiki over the weekend, considering the multiple heya hit and the timing?

Mitakeumi and others were scheduled to appear in the setsubun activities again, but most if not all will have to cancel their partaking in the events

They couldn't hold it back - Shibatayama now about the upcoming events (also the NHK Charity sumo a few days later): "Those scheduled to take part have to undergo a PCR test" https://hochi.news/articles/20220202-OHT1T51179.html?page=1

They really don't want to cancel any more events.

Might might become one of the worst superspreader event(s).
One does have to credit the kyokai for acting fast when the news broke. I just wish that they would screen everyone in the whole kyokai.

poor Nakamura oyakata & Tateyama oyakata (although maybe it was good not to have hana-zumo?)

There goes Yoshikaze's danpatsushiki and the Fuji tournament. That's almost 1/5 the sekitori out of it already.

Also, Kiyomigata (Tochiozan) seems to have been omitted in the copypaste from the ISJ Twitter.

4 of the 6 top rikishi are out, only Shodai and Meisei remain from the recent kore yori sanyaku.

Fuji TV as the organizer has to decide if they want to hold the tournament, the danpatsushiki is planned to be held. http://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXZQOKC04E8E0U2A200C2000000/

They had the PCR tests today and the 17 were found positive, but as I said, they really don't want to can cancel any event. But nobody from a heya with infections should be able to take part, that is much more than 1/5 of the sekitori out.

The remaining top 6 are then Kiribayama, Ichinojo, Tamawashi, Okinoumi, Onosho, Chiyoshoma - vs. 11 out till m5

Only those scheduled for the upcoming events were tested, who knows how many lower ranked rikishi are also infected, especially tsukebito.

For such news the yokozuna's name should be first in that list, not stuck in the middle.

Every one of the above vaxxed?(Detective...)

The "vax" doesn't stop you from getting it-it makes sure you get it  "lightly".. My mom is 89 and she got it , with no symptoms or anything whatsoever- vaxxed with the fourth. Yeah, we're at 4 now.

Thanks for the TED talk, but I've been living here.  Is the answer "yes"?  I'd heard that the NSK had a blanket vaxxing some months ago.  2 shots for each?

What's a TED talk?

You fly to England to have a conversation with Jason Sudeikis.

Given that there are more COVID cases right now, than ever before in Japan, I'm surprised there's not more talk of another spectator-free basho.

You couldn't make me go there even if you used a lasso.
