Urakata are the gyoji, yobidashi, tokoyama, wakaimonogashira and sewanin

2 oyakata have been tested positive: Onogawa (Kitataiki) from Yamahibiki-beya and Otowayama (Tenkaiho) from Onoe-beya, no symptoms yet.

Shibatayama: "If they lent their chests in training, it may become complicated." Checks are going on if the 2 oyakata trained with rikishi, those rikishi may not be allowed to participate. This investigation should be completed till the torikumi conference on the 12th and on that day the decision made who may enter and who not.

The oyakata who worked together with the 2 in the oyakata channel and other NSK members who came into contact with them are about 15 in all, they stay at home will be tested again on the 13th and. (Double posting on two threads so as to avoid the complaints)

The torikumi for days one and two will be announced tomorrow, Saturday the 13th. Reason-waiting for the final PCR tests after 2 oyakata were found positive yesterday and the fear that they might have been in close contact with rikishi and maybe infected them as well. Small problem- Onoe beya, to which the infected Otowayama Oyakata belongs, announced on their Facebook page that the whole heya will be kyujo, without consulting the Kyokai. "It seems like they wrote on Facebook that they are all kyujo, but the people that live outside of the heya will not be kyujo. It seems they just went and arbitrarily announced this but no final decision has been made yet, so going public on social media like this is troubling," said Shibatayama Oyakata.

"I don't think the basho will be suspended if someone will be infected by the virus. We are taking precautions such as distancing and wearing masks," said Oguruma Oyakata today. Last basho he said he was sure the basho will be stopped if rikishi were found positive.

There is no intention of allowing more than 5000 spectators per day in the KKan during the basho, said Shibatayama PR man. No change in the avoidance policies either, at least till after the basho.

The state of emergency measures in the Tokyo area have been lifted as of now. Rikishi going out after the basho will be pending on the Oyakata's approval. They will also be called upon to be careful out there and to continue to take all the other preventive measures.

The NSK announced that the July basho after last year in Tokyo, this year as it should be will take place in Nagoya again, with a limit of 3800 spectators per day, within 50% of the capacity of the venue. The external riji expressed concerns in regard of the infection situation, but the kokugikan is still planned to host the Olympic boxing events. o

There will be no sumo train running, after a PCR test for all, they will move to Nagoya heya by heya. o

Ah yes, I forgot Ryogoku Kokugikan will be used for Olympic’s boxing event. No wonder why we will have “Nagoya Basho” instead of “July (Tokyo) Basho” as Kokugikan must be prepared for the event.

Fix rule now: for the basho, those who likely were in contact with an infected person will have to kyujo.

For water intake at keiko, individual PET bottles are used, it will be noted when a shower is taken after keiko.

Meanwhile, the CDC in the US has found that the number one risk factor for bad COVID outcome is ... obesity.  Yikes!

The NSK should get the rikish, yobidash, gyojis, etc., vaccinated before the next basho. I've read that we're about to have a glut of extra vaccines in the US as we try to talk some of my more foolish countrymen into taking the elixir of choice.

I know that Japan has started vaccinating medical personnel, and of course, grocery and restaurant workers should be a high priority, but hey, sumo is the unofficial national sport, right? It's certainly helped me get through the pandemic, at least just a bit.

Rikishi going to be vaccinated in June. More vulnerable NSK personnel in May. This ahead of the move to Nagoya in July.
