Kintamayama Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 It's official-the Aki basho is on as planned with a limit of 2500 spectators a day. 3
Akinomaki Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 (edited) The 2nd edition of the NSK guidelines, same link, but 2 pages more, 34 now: http://www.sumo.or.jp/pdf/kyokai/guideline2007.pdf Page 17-19 is for spectators at the basho, all the rest just for NSK members: general rules, at the heya, at the basho - spectators - jungyo (though canceled this year), in case of infection, more general rules. To travel overseas is forbidden, face to face meeting with people who came from overseas is not allowed for 2 weeks after their entry to Japan. The NSK has a video on site with manners at the basho, where oyakata show how to misbehave http://www.sumo.or.jp/Watching/guide/tokyo/room/601/ Edited August 31, 2020 by Akinomaki 1
Kintamayama Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 Rikishi-kai representative Kotoshougiku visited Oguruma oyakata at the Kkan today, asking to lift the degeiko ban, citing the fact that sekitori that have only a few opponents to face at their heya cannot train properly. Oguruma answered that if even one of them contract the disease as a result, the whole basho will be in danger of being canceled. "We will be doing whatever the Kyokai decides, of course. Still, maybe they can allow degeiko during the odd months when there is no basho. We need to think outside of the box.." said Kotoshougiku. 1 1
Kintamayama Posted September 6, 2020 Author Posted September 6, 2020 (edited) A Makushita and under rikishi has been tested positive. No mention of which heya. The rikishi fell ill yesterday in the afternoon and was tested positive at the local hospital. He is in hospital since today. Anyone who came in close contact with him and even heya members that didn't will undergo tests.no other heya members have shown any symptoms so far. "We don't know how he contracted it. It was a Sunday, so I really don't have any specific details. He is a member of a very large heya so we need to find out how it happened and hope he will be the only one affected, as the basho is nearing and this is worrying.." said Shibatayama PR man. Can’t they create some sort of training bubble? i.e. Group the sekitori into threes or fours and limit them to degeiko just within their groups. Give priority to those rikishi with no sekitori heyamates and try to arrange the groups geographically as far as is possible (stables near each other grouped together, etc). 1

Tamanoi heya with 18 infected.

The closest heya to tamanoi heya would be Oitekaze heya.

The only way to have kept that anonymous would have been to cancel the whole basho.
WAKATAKE Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 According to Shibatayama, the judging department might take into account the Covid situation for the Tamanoi beya members when they meet for the banzuke committee after the basho, but no confirmation at this point. "We can't help if they got infected..." says the PR man. https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202009100000251.html 1

That might be just enough for Azumaryu, but Fujiazuma is probably dropping to Makushita.
Joaoiyama Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 So which rikishi are kyujo duo to covid issues?
Seiyashi Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi.aspx?shikona=&heya=90&shusshin=-1&b=202009&high=-1&hd=-1&entry=-1&intai=-1&sort=1 The affected sekitori are Fujiazuma and Azumaryu, who are both almost guaranteed to drop out of Juryo if they are considered 0-0-15. From what little I know of the lower divisions, the only other notable lower division wrestler to be affected is Shiraishi (7-0 yusho in his debut basho as a Sd100 tsukedashi entrant). He's Ms2W this basho and would have had a good chance to be promoted to sekitori if he hadn't gone kyujo.
rhyen Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 The funny thing is didn’t everyone, including the Tamanoi rikishi attend the talk inside the kokugikan on the 30th? Shouldn’t they all be quarantined?

I'd like to know how to taste positivity in a rikishi's muscles too Jokes aside, the Nikkan Sports article said Fujiazuma and 17 other non-sekitori were said by the NSK to have been infected. It's Azumaryu we don't know about. If my memory serves me correctly, the NSK did do tests on everyone recently at some point in time, and those, presumably, came up clean. If that was after the 30th, I think they're clear. In any case, if we don't hear any other cases outside Tamanoi over the next few days, we're clear, since anyone who might have been infected on the 30th would start showing symptoms by now.

WAKATAKE Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 NSK is looking at allowing degeiko. Most likely degeiko would have to happen before the announcement of the banzuke. "The two weeks before the basho are most important" said Oguruma. "If someone tests positive, we would have them quarantine for two weeks, and if they got an infection from the heya they went to, the heya would also quarantine for two weeks. So they could do degeiko up until the banzuke announcement." https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202009120000279.html 2 1
Akinomaki Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 The now traditional (13th) scarecrow festival in Mitsue village, Nara, focused on the Abe-no-mask, which each citizen in Japan had received from the government. This piece is meant to depict Nara new local hero Tokushoryu o with the one who made it - it lacks the proper volume to qualify as bearing resemblance o definitely more scary with mask - but will the crows notice? 2

Kintamayama Posted September 25, 2020 Author Posted September 25, 2020 Degeiko will be allowed beginning October 5th for 2 weeks. Proof of a negative virus test and an approval from the destination heya's Oyakata will be needed. Each rikishi will be allowed to go to one heya only. A keiko session at the Kokugikan's training institute is also being considered. 2 2
