What? That's BS.

I hope Tochi is a stronger man than me because that decision would break me.

Bad call? The is the worst F-ing call, I think I ever seen. Such utter bullshit. Hope all the judges get demoted and lambasted and fined.

Unbelievable!!!!

I can't imagine how badly Onomatsu shimpan will butcher the explanation...

Never mind the explanation.   They robbed Tochi of his win, Ozeki rank, and possibly a chance at yusho.   This is not good for ozumo.   This is bad, bad, bad.

Yup the clear imprint in the sand where asanoyama’s elbow hit

Why check the ja-no-me when Asanoyama's downed hand plowed through the sand? Even if Tochinoshin's heel had touched, the evidence would have been erased. That was a video-only decision, and they botched it badly. A bad look for the first basho of the Reiwa Era.

I don't understand what they were talking about for so long. If they were getting feedback about another camera angle, why couldn't we see it?

Yes.

Putting on a tinfoil hat: They are still angry at Tochinoshin and still try to hamper his progress. So, of course they grab every chance they get.

(disclaimer: this is not a serious post, but an entertaining)

They can say it. But it feels more like the days when Sonny Liston won all of his boxing matches.  I am in shock!

In rugby, a decision can only be overturned by compelling video evidence. Without it, the ref's decision stands. They really need that in sumo. There's no way after five minutes of talking any of those judge's had a clear, unbiased memory of what they'd seen.

You're joking, right?

Clearly, the video showed Tochi won.   Even on naked eyes, he won.  I.e., monoii wasn't needed.   This basho had so many bad calls that it is sad, sad, sad.   I thought Okinoumi getting a free one was bad but this is really horrific.

There seemed to be disagreement in the mono-ii. The Shimpan in the back right was quite animated and it seemed to me that he would not let up on what-ever decision he had made. It was on his side of the dohyo, I think he made that call and refused to budge.

...Or I'm completely wrong.

Don't tell me you aren't aware of the video booth.

Of course I am. I didn't see them show any compelling evidence on the TV of Tochi losing that bout. Do they have secret camera angles upstairs?
