This basho (September 2024), it will be the 25th anniversary since the first official basho for Bench Sumo - our Silver anniversary!   There were 18 players for that very first basho. Out of those 18 pioneers, 6 (7?) are still playing the game today*. They are Chijanofuji, Gaijingai, Jejima, Kintamayama, Marushiki and Nekonishiki. (Maeden also plays the game from time-to-time).  This is some achievement!

I am hoping for a big turn out for our silver anniversary. We welcome new and returning players.

Due to the automation, if you are new (and possibly returning), you need to let @Jakusotsu know that you wish to take part, and he'll add you to the database.

Please read the start of this thread for more details regarding the rules, the Bench Sumo mailing list, etc.

*I would like to also mention that Getayukata, Heiyu and Kirinoumi all commenced playing, in the subsequent basho, November 1999, and so are part of the pre-Second Millennium players!
