Asashoryu made Makuuchi in 2 years, if Hoshoryu continues these good performances he'll make it in less.

Before Takakeisho will get further he needs to learn and use the mawashi

The last two guys I was rooting lost. Mita may have been lost for the rest of the basho. Takakeisho lost but I still think he has a good chance at 11 wins.

Possible tasty match ups tomorrow include Terao v Naya, Tanabe v Shonannoumi (nice shikona to try and say drunk) Dewahayate v Tsushimanada (another great shikona to say drunk) and Fujiazuma v Wakamotoharu... looking forward to those (if I'm awake then ) (Thank heavens the crane has gone kyujo) 1

This basho started chaotically exciting but already may be heading for another Hak win, albeit by some fortunate matches. Personally I'd like to see the chaos continue for a bit longer!

After a bit of a struggle to get to juryo in his early career and making it there again later on, I think at 32 it's going to be tough ask for him to make it back to sekitori. Amamaniac Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 (edited) Just when things looked like we were seeing a mass uprising by the generation of future stars, most of the hopefuls suffered twists of fate in dramatic fashion! Onosho is about the only one who has remained unscathed. But as almost everyone starts to struggle, Hakuho finds himself in the driver's seat yet again. Morita's commentary today pointed out that there have been first-time yusho winners in January for the last three years. Will we see that trend continue? At this stage (and it is still early), both Onosho and Aoiyama seem to be positioned to fulfil the need. Will the reportedly leaner, lighter Hakuho be able to persevere till day 15? Certainly the competition has largely evaporated, but he seems to have lost some of his earlier power. I'd love to see Hakuho take on Aoiyama (hopefully the Bulgarian didn't injure his wrist in his bout against Daieisho today) before the end of this tournament. Probably when demotion to Makushita is inevitable, maybe after a disastrous basho (3-12 or worse) as well. Takekaze: Demotion to Makushita (most likely after this basho, I don't see him getting 5 more wins). Toyohibiki: It is not public knowledge, whether he has a kabu secured or not (owned or loaned). As long as he hasn't secured his future, he will continue (my guess). So, I oppose your bet of 3.

Bright spots are Ishura up from Juryo, Aoiyama looking strong and determined. 2

Is the extra weight designed to bring about a change in his wrestling style so as to prevent future injuries resulting from non-sumo techniques? Whatever the reason, in the the bout you tagged, his tachiai still showed signs of his old Greco-Roman ways. 1
