Akinomaki Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 (edited) The Nikkan (unique) sports awards begin to get published http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/column/sumo/news/201812190000760.html Tochinoshin has the most wins, but was kyujo this year: the perfect attendance MVP is Mitakeumi: 53 wins, 2nd Ichinojo with 49 The silver collector award: kinboshi are wins against yokozuna by rank and filers - (inofficial) ginboshi the ones against ozeki, and like at our Hoshitori game, also sanyaku are eligible: the award goes to Shodai with 5, followed by Tamawashi with 3. 2 ginboshi: Kaisei, Endo, Tochiozan, Chiyomaru, Chiyotairyu, Takakeisho and Tochinoshin before promotion - and no sign of Mitakeumi, the next former future ozeki? (also only 1 win against yokozuna) The "get the hall excited" award. The NSK publishes the most spirited rikishi each day of the basho (and I post it here), and also Nikkan in their paper have such a popularity ranking each day: Kisenosato gets it usually, but since he's absent most of the time, he only was top on 8 days (for the 11 wins he had in 2018). The winner of this award is Endo, who was top 14 days this year. 2nd is Takakeisho with 13 - he pointed last basho, 3rd is Mitakeumi with 9 tops, 8 times have also Tochinoshin and Abi. Wavelet award The "big wave" award of the most up and down movements on the banzuke is a standard Nikkan award (this year only in the printed Nikkan paper), this is the opposite: a stable banzuke position (below Y/O of course): the "award" goes to Mitakeumi and Ichinojo, who both have only 2 points of changes this year The "Love sumo" award: at last one to give to Kisenosato - though he hardly was at the basho, he keeps sticking to (his career in) sumo. The award goes for the greatest yearly average bout length: Kise had 24 bouts and a total of 440.3seconds, his average bout was 18.3s. 2nd is Kakuryu with 14.6s, followed by Ichinojo, Takayasu, Hakuho. The one who was most efficient with his time on the dohyo is again only in the printed version. Edited December 22, 2018 by Akinomaki 4 1

Akinomaki Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 (edited) The least desirable one: the "Let the money slip away" award - it goes to Mitakeumi: the most kensho the rikishi would have got, had he won that bout - but didn't. Likely the ones are not included where the bout was cancelled due to kyujo - data are rare for this. 631 kensho lost for him, 2nd Goeido with 628, the usual culprit Endo with 621 - the top 3 are close together. 4 Kotoshogiku 467 not won, Takayasu 438, Shodai 422, Takakeisho 376, at last at 8 Kisenosato - he only was in 24 bouts this year - and lost 355 kensho in 13 bouts, Tochinoshin 352, and a sruprise at 10: Shohozan was in that much prominent bouts to lose 333 kensho. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/201812270000208.html Edited December 27, 2018 by Akinomaki 1 2

Akinomaki Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 (edited) A short look at the worst rikishi this year - but of course we all know who it is. Among those in makuuchi all 6 basho, those with the least wins are: 1. Kisenosato with 11, 2. Hakuho with 31. http://www.zakzak.co.jp/spo/news/181228/spo1812280007-n1.html The most kinboshi distributed, though he had the least number of bouts, only 24: 7 losses to maegashira - Kisenosato: 11-15-64 Kakuryu has given away 4, with a record of 51-15-24 - Hakuho had 3, with 31-8-51 (the losses include fusenpai) http://npn.co.jp/article/detail/24964858/ The biggest (proper = vs. maegashira) ginboshi distributing ozeki (collectors above): no surprise - it's Goeido with 18, Takayasu has 11. Tochinoshin with 6 was only ozeki for 3 basho. http://npn.co.jp/article/detail/82924557/ Edited December 28, 2018 by Akinomaki 2
