Kuroyama Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 4 hours ago, Joaoiyama said: He is not looking terrible but he was supposed to be established by now, getting KK but looking the opposite of impressive is a sign of unreached potential. Indeed he is consistant with the numbers but his variable perfomances are a shame to watch considering his potential. Now i disagree on the weight subject, if he was in a better shape it's likely that a 10 win record would've happened at sanyaku because he doesn't know how to use his current huge frame. Even when he beats some top guys he loses to random guys like he's just another rikishi destined to journey through maegashira ranks. A better condition means losing some fat and building some muscle, the weight will come down sure but the point is what he can or can't do with his body mass, it amazes me that guys like Shohozan can yorikiri Ichinojo the same basho he beats Hakuho. Lack of mobility is his greatest flaw and such huge frame surely doesn't help. Unless there's some truth to what I've heard, and that his inconsistent performance is due to occasional severe back pain. The theory is that when he's free from pain he wins like he's ozeki material at least, but when he's not he's in danger of losing to just about anyone. I can't recall who I heard this from -- it was in stream chat a couple of basho ago -- so I have no idea how true it is, but it's at least a plausible explanation. In that case, losing some of the weight is still key, since too much weight can exacerbate back pain. 2
neonbelly Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 (edited) I think Ichinojo would do well to lose weight, too. For as big as he is he always gives ground to his opponents, and even when he's "good" Ichinojo he's still winning with throws and grappling techniques at the edge more so than driving anyone out from his tachi ai. Aoiyama, for example, has a body matched to his style. Big old boy there to push and shove. Ichinojo is more of a grappler anyway. Edited September 19, 2018 by neonbelly 1

Kintamayama Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 (edited) Juryo mess. Not a single rikishi with less than 4 losses. No KK even after day 11. Eight tied for the lead -Arawashi, Daiamami, Meisei, Yago, Tokushouryuu, Hakuyouzan, Azumaryuu and Joukouryuu. Edited September 19, 2018 by Kintamayama

Also, Serio is messing things up giving out freebies to everybody. Hopefully after he loses tomorrow he will withdraw because 3 wins won't keep him out of Makushita. A nice subplot - Aminishki's chance for kachikosh. Asanoyma's loss to Daishomaru was one of the worst of the basho. God, that was bad.
Rocks Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 And Abi falls flat on his face. Perfect image for the quality of sumo tonight. Please let the sanyaku be better.
Rocks Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 oh well. Guess Mitakeumi can start a new ozeki run in November because he isn't getting 10 wins here. He'll be lucky to KK at this rate.

Shikona change has to wait.
Eikokurai Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Tochinoshin is back. Great for him, though hopefully the yusho race remains close to the end.
Fukuyamada Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 (edited) WOW! Tochinoshin lifts out Kakuryu! Brilliant stuff. Now 7-4 Edited September 19, 2018 by Fukuyamada add text
robnplunder Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Tochinoshin saves the day!!!!!!! Take that, Kak. 1
Rocks Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Not many guys can give up a grip like that to a Yopkozuna and manhandle him anyway. Great win for Tochinoshin.
robnplunder Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 ... and Ichinojo "dominates" Kise? Wow!
Eikokurai Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Pathetic from Takayasu. He barely stood up before he got knocked down. And now Hakuho takes the lead in the yusho race. Boo. 1
robnplunder Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 For me, this day goes down as the worst of the basho. Takayasu loss was even worse than Asanoyama's earlier. I will just keep replaying Hokutofuji's win until tomorrow. 2
Rocks Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Kise took that loss very hard. Never seen him show such emotion after a loss. Not a great night of sumo though that's for sure. Wins were deserved but not much fight was put up by most of the losers.
Kuroyama Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Hakuho completely dominated the mental game, and Takayasu didn't have the slightest idea what to expect. A straightforward tachiai was the last thing he was looking for at that point. 1
Jabbamaru Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Omg! Tochinozilla. Nice lift. He was like; "morozashi? Morozashi my ass". Good Ichi! Make no favor for that lame zuna. Good. Takayasu...why? 1
mikawa Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Ichinojo got extra-shoved by Hakuho yesterday and goes on to dominate Kisenosato like that?
word20 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 A very strange loss by Takayasu, it was finished before it even began

I am not a Mita fan but why did he attempt such a sloppy henka, I thought he had better chances straight on... : ( 2
mikawa Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 Strange game plan for Kakuryu to go in for the morozashi against Tochinoshin, he's pretty much the only opponent where it can easily backfire. It did for Shohozan, and it did today
