A monoii overturned the result of Jokoryu-Enho, awarding the win to Jokoryu.

Akua is now trying to usurp the big salt throw role of Terutsuyoshi, to no avail, in his match against Azumaryu.

And we have our first sekitori withdrawal, Seiro.

He looked good. I picked him to go 5-2 only because I think if he gets out of position and has to strain the knee he will not and just give up. As I think he should. He's doing physical therapy here and training more than competing.  Getting  the KK and time in the ring is more important than Yushos at this stage for him.

I also picked him to go 5-2 b/c I think he may be rusty after a long layoff.  Also, Ura being on a diminutive size, relatively speaking, he can be tripped up by up and coming bigger rikishi.   But, in my heart, I am hoping he takes the yusho and gets promoted quickly to Makuuchi.

.... and we ... may ... just ... see ... Amenishiki again in Makuuchi.   Wow!

That was pretty funny. Chiyonokuni lifting his foot like he stepped in dog poo when he realized he had stepped out and lost.

That was maybe the worst shimpan explanation ever - by Nishikido - Yutakayama won, in the Shodai-Endo bout

the rest he said was a mess as well

he much later made the announcement that it was Shodai

Oh no - another mono-ii for Nishikido

A needless one too. Clear as day. And they called a torinaoshi- what the hell? Nishikido is beatboxing nonsense up there.

The tori-naoshi he had tried to call for Endo - he couldn't quite remember if Mitakeumi went out or dropped down at the same time as Tamawashi

Let that be a lesson to us all. Toss salt like there's no tomorrow and you'll end up senile at 56.

Meanwhile, Mitakeumi has an excellent start to his Ozeki run: 4 wins in 3 days.

I don't think Nishikido's memory works long enough to remember what the video room told him about what happened till he has to make the explanation -  let alone which rikishi had fought just now

There are plenty opportunities to show himself as an even bigger fool in the Y/O bouts - still only half of his shift is over - 2 mono-ii out of 5

Yup, I had a feeling we'd see Slouchinojo today. Seems like he's always lousy the day after he loses a bout he fought hard to win.

Wow! What a match for Kisenosato. He fought like the devil and pulled it out. After another silly monoli.  Great win.

Another great day of sumo today, amazing Basho so far. Kisenosato had a bit of trouble again today but fought so hard,  I am pretty sure they called the mono-i just so the head shipan could actually finish a sentence without making any mistake and sound like an idiot.

I'm not sure we can chalk up Yutakayama's success to Kisenosato's status. He came in aggressively and did a good job keeping Kise from getting the left hand in there. To put it another way, Yutakayama came in with a strategy and did all the right things to win, but Kisenosato's superior experience and ring sense decided the match in the end. Still, despite that Yutakayama isn't getting wins, he's been fighting well.

Really pleased with this basho thus far.

I had expected him to call back Shodai for a tori-naoshi against Kise

Asanoyama looks very calm and good. I think he is a very complete rikishi. For me the biggest hope of all the youngsters.

I liked his Sumo from the beginning, very beautiful style. Nothing crazy, just carefully executed moves in both offence and defence. A bit like Endo but he has the power and the size as well.

However, he keeps losing to any of the upper Meagashira - just not good enough yet to be a threat to the top Rikishi. Still has some miles to go and remain healthy.

Enho is Hakuho's deshi. They practice with each other. Enho's potential will not be limited by his height or weight. Shin-gi-tai. Heart-Technique-Body. In that order.

Ever heard of that guy?

Sadly, Kisenosato is simply a mess getting lucky so far. He'll be toast when he faces those guys who actually know what they're doing.

What was Mainoumi's fighting weight during his tenure in makuuchi? I'm not ready to poo-poo Enho just yet.

Aminishiki has started well at the top of Juryo. Could he better his own record yet again and return once more to Makuuchi?

Can he win his first career yusho?
