I get what you are saying but tenth best woman athlete in your country for some sport is still not worth a lot of exposure. I mean she’s still making more bank than any rikishi bar hakuho but that’s just a golf thing.

I'm pretty sure the 10th-best Japanese women's golf player's level of general public attention is no less than that of the 10th-best rikishi. The "just a golf thing", i.e. big purses, doesn't magically appear out of thin air after all, there's an audience behind that.

At any rate, the tabloids back in 2018 were just as interested in talking about what this relationship meant for her as what it did for him. I sure didn't get the impression at the time that Ikioi was the bigger deal of the two, except in the sense that people are generally more interested in who rikishi marry than who female golf players marry.
