Kintamayama Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 The YDC did convene after the basho and among other things, members were saying it's OK if Kisenosato sat out Nagoya as well, as long as he came back strong in September. Today, training commenced at Tagonoura beya, but Kisenosato was nowhere to be seen. "Inspections and medical treatment," explained the Oyakata, who said they spoke on the phone. "His condition is mostly better," added the Oyakata, saying he has been doing the fundamentals since the middle of the May basho. "He is doing everything towards showing his fans a healthy appearance and he can't wait for that to happen," summed the Oyakata. He does intend to turn up tomorrow, I have been told. OTOH, injured Ozeki Takayasu did show up for keiko. He has also been doing the "fundamentals" but today he entered the dohyo as well, lending his chest to the lower rankers, and was also seen being pushed back to the end of the dohyo, only to push his opponent all the way back and out. Regarding his injured left upper arm: "It's mostly OK now. It's only the first day of training so there's no reason to go all out..I just hope to confirm my good sense without doing anything unnecessary. I will gradually get better until I feel I will be able to go at it with all my might. Tochinoshin? We are now in the same position. so there is no elder-younger (in experience) thing here. Our goals are the same. We just have to devote ourselves to sumo every day.." he said. "I was watching the Natsu basho like a regular fan.. I now understand what kind of sumo the average fan wants to see. When we wrestle we think we know, but we don't. The new Ozeki did very stable and calm sumo and the fans loved it. I have learned from that," he waxed philosophical. 11 9
Kintamayama Posted June 5, 2018 Author Posted June 5, 2018 Kisenosato started training today, but the session was closed to outsiders. Insiders say he did the fundamentals and lent his chest to the lower rankers. "I will gambarize from here on.." he said 1 4

Kintamayama Posted June 13, 2018 Author Posted June 13, 2018 (edited) We heartily welcome Ozeki Tochinoshin to the halls of this thread. He started training today and did sumo for the first time in 17 days., since senshuraku of the Natsu basho. 15 minutes, lending his chest to the lower rankers. He looked very tired. "Difficult... difficult.." he said later, exhausted. All the festivities kept him away from training. "I had no time for myself even for one day-I had no time to rest at all.. " he said of his trip home to Georgia. Usually after morning practice he would be sweating and saying how great he feels, but not today. "I'm feeling lousy. The wine came out with my sweat.." he joked, alluding to the fact that his parents' house is on a wine farm. Since the end of last basho it's been the promotion ceremony, constant partying, a trip home meeting with his President, interviews, etc. A hectic schedule for sure. "I was happy. I now feel what I hadn't felt till now. regarding the responsibilities of an Ozeki . There isn't a single person in Georgia that doesn't know who I am and everywhere I went people were calling me 'Ozeki! Ozeki!,' and that was cool. It's daunting. " he added. As for his daughter who he met for the first time: "She looks like me, but more than that, she looks like my mother.. She is 9 centimeters taller than the average height of her age and weighs ten kilos more." he boasted. The main worry right now is the condition of his injured wrist. He went for a checkup before he left for Georgia and no serious bone damage was detected, contrary to the rumors. "My wrist hurts so I can't do any serious butsugari contact stuff. I'd like for it to heal somehow," he said. His aim next basho? "Double digits, for sure." A bit out of focus? Edited June 13, 2018 by Kintamayama 4 7
Kintamayama Posted June 13, 2018 Author Posted June 13, 2018 (edited) Hakuhou has started training today at the Miyagino training camp in Nagahama city, doing the fundamentals and then facing his young heyamates Enhou, Oonokura (just made it to Makushita for the first time after entering in March 2014, only to finish with a 2-5 record) and Ishiura for nine bouts, 3 each. No result was given. The problems he had before last basho with his two toes seem to be behind him and he was looking strong, in front of 200 fans who came to watch. He trained for two hours. "I sweated well.." he summed. Edited June 13, 2018 by Kintamayama 2 5
Kintamayama Posted June 14, 2018 Author Posted June 14, 2018 Kisenosato situation: "His injury is mostly healed and he is now in a condition to train," said Tagonoura Oyakata today, just like he said before the last two bashos. Kisenosato has yet to train with Ozeki Takayasu his heyamate lately. "I'll talk to both of them and if they can they should. The basho approaches and is within view," he added. 4

Probably not inaccurate. I imagine it’s as healed as it can get, only he won’t recover the same power on that side as he had before. He can probably wrestle to a decent level with what he has, but Yokozuna level? Not looking promising. All conjecture of course.
Kintamayama Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 (edited) Kisenosato has started serious training today, facing Takayasu for 11 bouts, winning 9-2. He was seen using his favorite left hand grip, winning the last five bouts. He then did some weight training and stuff for an hour and a half, and in all sweated for nearly 4 hours.. "It was good training, on the mawashi and off the mawashi. The dohyo is excellent, and the fact that weight training facilities are right there is fantastic. I hope to get stronger in this wonderful environment," he said. Takayasu is coming off that left upper arm injury that sidelined him last basho as well. "I'm 90% over the injury. The Yokozuna is heavy. I could feel his mental and physical power. It was great keiko.." he said. Edited June 15, 2018 by Kintamayama 2 2
Churaumi Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 I think Kisenosato’s records against Takayasu during keiko don’t matter for much. He’s looked great against Takayasu and then more or less been embarrassed nearly every basho he’s actually entered. If he goes to rengo keiko and still does well, I’ll be excited for him. 2
Kintamayama Posted June 16, 2018 Author Posted June 16, 2018 (edited) Today, Kisenosato was 9-1 against Takayasu, overpowering him. Sharp first step, swift left hold, yori, and out. He then did some butsugari with Takayasu, being the victim this time and rolling in the sand time and again. "I'm mounting the dohyo with a great feeling and it's really fun to do keiko in a wide place. A lot of vocal encouragement from the fans? I didn't notice. I guess i was really concentrated," he said. "I am better in all aspects." he summed, smiling a lot lately as opposed to his glum face these last few months. " Edited June 16, 2018 by Kintamayama 5 4
Kintamayama Posted June 17, 2018 Author Posted June 17, 2018 Hakuhou trained his 9 year old boy at the heya lodgings today. Fundamental moves, then into the dohyo to face Ishiura and Yamaguchi, 3 bouts, results not given.. "Push harder," etc., said dad. 5 1
Kintamayama Posted June 17, 2018 Author Posted June 17, 2018 (edited) Kisenosato trained with Takayasu again today and was 8-3. 26-6 in all the last three days. He is really happy with the Tokushima lodgings. "It was good. I was able to forge my body and it was a plus in many ways," he said. "There was a great atmosphere and i was able to do great keiko. In the beginning I was fumbling around a bit, but it gradually became better three days later," added Takayasu. Edited June 22, 2018 by Kintamayama 2
Kintamayama Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 (edited) Tochinoshin started training at the heya’s Nagoya lodgings today. He lent his chest to some lower rankers for about 20 times. The oyakata who were there kept calling him "Ozeki!!" which embarrassed him somewhat. He seemed relaxed. "I'll be training tomorrow as well," he said, as he made his way to the rikishi-kai which was held later. At the lodgings, he has asked to remain in the same "big room" with Aoiyama, Tochiouzan and heya coach Hatachiyama Oyakata, foregoing a private room he is entitled to as an Ozeki. "Nothing's changed. I will be aiming for the yusho as I am now ranked at where one is expected to show good results," he said. With all the festivities surrounding his promotion, his weight dropped to 160 kilos at some point. He has managed to bring it back up to 170 kilos. "I intend to do serious keiko and add some power. I hope to add 2-3 kilos more," he said. Edited June 26, 2018 by Kintamayama 9
Kintamayama Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 (edited) Injured kadoban Ozeki Takayasu trained at the Tagonoura lodgings today with the lower rankers. "The injury isI not bothering me. I'll be working on the fundamentals and hope to forge a body that will not succumb to injuries," he said. He was 12-3 in January and March before getting injured before May. "How far I can go from here depends on my mental state. I'd like to work on that," he summed. Edited June 26, 2018 by Kintamayama 2 3
Kintamayama Posted June 26, 2018 Author Posted June 26, 2018 Yokozuna Kisenosato trained at the Tagonoura lodgings for two hours, doing the fundamentals-shiko, suriashi, teppo and rubber tube pulling. Then he lent his chest to the lower rankers on the outside dohyo. "I was able to do serious keiko upon arriving in Nagoya. My ring sense is also pretty good. What's left is to show results. Last year I didn't show anything good so i want to show some healthy sumo," he said. Will he enter Nagoya? "All i can do is train diligently," he said, stopping short of declaring he is entering Nagoya. 3 5

Kintamayama Posted June 29, 2018 Author Posted June 29, 2018 (edited) Kisenosato had 12 bouts against Takayasu yesterday, winning 10-2, but injuring his right elbow, although it doesn't seem serious. His arm got caught in Takayasu's hold as he threw him. Still, he continued to train so maybe nothing there. He did repeatedly stretch his elbow for a while, but continued till the final butsugari geiko. today, he participated in the Nishonoseki rengo keiko held at Naruto beya, facing Ryuuden for some bouts. It's the first time since before last basho that he trained with a sekitori other than his heyamate Takayasu. He purposely chose an opponent that he has no chance of facing next basho, but only managed a 5-4 record. The bouts he won he won by somehow winning by oshidashi, but two of his his losses were after giving up a morozashi and getting easily pushed out. He only managed to say " Well.. well.." when asked about the low number of bouts and about his condition and got into a car and left. "He has a lot of issues. In all aspects," said his Oyakata, raising a big question mark over his entering Nagoya basho. He couldn't use his favorite left grip today. "Well, his opponent thought about that." answered the Oyakata. "I really can't give you an answer after today's content, "summed Tagonoura Oyakata. Edited June 29, 2018 by Kintamayama 2 5

Kintamayama Posted June 30, 2018 Author Posted June 30, 2018 Ozeki Tochinoshin trained at home today. after warning up his body, he faced heyamate Tochiouzan for 17 bouts, going 11-6 and not looking so great. Alongside some powerful sumo, he was also seen pushed back and pulling, causing his Oyakata to point out that this was not good.."I have to see to it to not get pushed back at the tachiai, because then I become impatient and pull. My wrist is getting better slowly. The pain is almost gone and the heat is OK. I have a week till Day 1.." he explained. Butsugari with the young ones: 1 3
Kintamayama Posted June 30, 2018 Author Posted June 30, 2018 (edited) Kisenosato was at the Nishonoseki rengo keiko today , held at Nishonoseki Beya. he did not face any of the high ranking Maegashira, but chose to take on new Makuuchi Kotoekou. 10 bouts, won them all, taking advantage of the 11 centimeters and 41 kilo difference between them. "I said to myself-'Huh', when I saw Kisenosato called on Kotoekou to train with him. He essentially used his height and weight advantage to beat him. He should be choosing better rikishi with much more power-that's what I would have liked to see. That was not keiko that said 'I'm entering Nagoya Basho'.." observed TV commentator Mainoumi. "He chose an easy opponent for himself today. He did use his left more than he did yesterday, but with this opponent.. He should do more sumo," agreed Tagonoura Oyakata. No talk at all about an entry decision. Edited June 30, 2018 by Kintamayama 2 5
