Kintamayama Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 34 year old ex-Juryo Kotomisen has retired. 1 1
Yubinhaad Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 An example of perseverance, Kotomisen's 85-basho climb to Juryo is the 4th slowest in history. "I learned the importance of patience in the sumo world", he said quite aptly. He was struggling with neck and ankle injuries and felt he had reached his limit after 19 years on the dohyo. Kotomisen made his Juryo debut in 2013 Nagoya and had two basho in the division. His favourite memory is of fighting Wakakoyu (now Shiranui-oyakata) each time, because they both made their debut in the same basho, 1999 Haru. His danpatsu-shiki is set to take place next month in his home city of Izumo, Shimane prefecture. Marking his Juryo debut with the 2013 Nagoya banzuke. On the dohyo in the kesho-mawashi from his Izumo koenkai. 4 7
shumitto Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Another dai-persistent from Sadogatake (Kotokuni, Kotoyutaka, Kotokasuga, Kotonomine all come to mind). But with some many rikishi this heya it is bound to have a myriad of career paths.
Akinomaki Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 (edited) Ex-Kotomisen reported his intai on May 22nd to the mayor of his hometown Izumo. The danpatsu-shiki and then the party will be in the local Lapita Wedding Palace on June 3rd, 16h. He lives in Izumo now: "I want to become a bridge to heya for people who want to do sumo." http://mainichi.jp/articles/20180522/ddl/k32/050/344000c Edited June 1, 2018 by Akinomaki 2 2

I had expected a bit more, especially with a delay till June, but only danpatsu-shiki for Kotomisen in the papers, with 240-250 guests and 84 having a cut. Kotomisen plans to work in the "daily life"-department of the Izumo headquarters of JA Shimane, which apparently runs the Lapita Wedding Palace (http://www.jaizumo.or.jp/lapita/). final cut by Sadogatake-oyakata o o cut by his mother o Edited June 4, 2018 by Akinomaki 1
Akinomaki Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 The cut-off mage and the kesho mawashi from the local Izumo koenkai of Kotomisen on display at the Lapita Wedding Palace, where the danpatsu-shiki took place. o final cut to that mage by the oyakata o The oyakata expressed 2 wishes to the supporters at the party: "For one introduce him to a potential bride, and second introduce to him kids with big bodies, to raise strong rikishi from Izumo." 1 2
Yubinhaad Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Not too many pictures around from this one, but these three are nice. During all the ceremonials and celebrations ahead of the danpatsu-shiki. Former stablemate Kotoninsei - now the heya manager at Naruto-beya - makes his cut. Officiating the danpatsu-shiki is Shikimori Kandayu, a fellow Izumo native. Another shot with ex-Kotoninsei afterwards. 1 2
