Sakura Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) Welcome to Break The Curse (The Nigate Game) Registration link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VDN6SN9 It's an easy game to play, but you have to pick wisely. In this daily game, you have to choose three Makuuchi bouts where you think a rikishi with a losing head-to-head record against his opponent will win. Rules 1) Every day, choose three Makuuchi bouts listed for that same day. The bouts must follow this form: A) The first bout must contain a rikishi from Sanyaku (any bout with a Y/O/S/K can be chosen). B) The second bout must contain a rikishi ranked M1 through M8. C) The third bout must contain a rikishi ranked M9 or lower. A lower ranked Makuuchi rikishi against a Juryo rikishi can be chosen. 2) Some bouts will fit in multiple categories (e.g. a Y vs M1 bout can be chosen for the first or second bout). However, you may not choose the same bout twice (or more). If you do, the second (or third) instance of the bout will score you 0 points. 3)Any bouts that do not fit the criteria will not score points. 4) You will score points if the rikishi with the losing record in head-to-head wins. E.g. if RIKISHI A has a 30-20 winning record over RIKISHI B and RIKISHI B wins, then you score points. If RIKISHI A wins, then you score 0 points. 5) The number of points you score is calculated by the difference in head-to-head score prior to the bout. E.g. if RIKISHI A has a 30-20 winning record over RIKISHI B and RIKISHI B wins, then you score 30-20=10 points. 6) When determining points, any previous bouts between the two rikishi that were in a playoff or decided by fusen do not count. I'll be using the head-to-head stats from the database, so if it gives a head-to-head of 5[-1]-8[+1], then that will be used as a 4-8 record in the calculations. 7) If your rikishi wins by fusen, then you get the points. 8) In addition to the points given as described above there will be an additional 4 points for picking a winning rikishi. This should make some of the lower scoring but low risk bouts more attractive to pick. 9) Day 15. Since the torikumi for day 15 comes out well after I've gone to bed, then you'll have to submit them to me via PM or posting here on the forum thread. Unless anyone else is able to do Dy 15 for me. 11) Promotion Rules for Ozeki 33 wins over last three basho of which last two in Sanyaku. All those bahso must have a winning record. 30 wins over last three basho of which last two in Sanyaku. All those bahso must have a winning record. AND a Yusho in those three. 2 Yusho over the last three basho (last two basho in Sanyaku) or a Yusho/Jun-Yusho back-to-back combination (in Sanyaku) Winning The winner is the one with the most points and the end of the basho. The tiebreaker is decided by the bonus points system. The entry form is an anonymous survey that I post links to here. Edited January 8, 2018 by Sakura added link

Pandaazuma Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 Given the ludicrous number of points that can be picked up for a fusensho, it might be worth having a points cap (say 20 points) for these lopsided head-to-head records.

Rocks Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 I would say it might be better to just limit the points to begin with since these large numbers are rare. I chose Giku even before the announcement because given that most of the time your are choosing a match that will get you around 1-6 points and having the shot at 48, or even 20, is just too big to pass up IMO. I didn't actually think Giku would win and I didn't pick him in any other game before Hakuho bowed out. But considering my opponents were gaining at most 6 points, I think, by choosing another match the chance at 48 was worth it to me. The fact that the other matches with lower numbers are also long shots makes it worth it too.

That was my logic too, although I was aware of a reasonable chance of fusen, which made it all the more attractive.
