Kintamayama Posted September 3, 2004 Posted September 3, 2004 A cafeteria will open on the second floor of the KKan starting in Aki Basho, it was decided today. It will be a "one 500 yen coin theme menu" style cafeteria. Additionally, there will be two new bento boxes-Musouyama and Tochiazuma. Musouyama's will have Shioyaki (broiled salted fish) and sweet and sour pork, while Tochiazuma's will be chicken and egg something soborogohan and shishkebab sort of skewered thingy. That brings the number of rikishi bentos to 6. All go for 1050 yen per bento.. I apologize for the incoherence. I'm miles away from Tokyo.
Mark Buckton Posted September 3, 2004 Posted September 3, 2004 But there is already an eatery on the 2nd floor. (I am not worthy...)
Kintamayama Posted September 9, 2004 Author Posted September 9, 2004 (edited) More details-they did a "trial run" yesterday with some of the Oyakata and Kyokai staff members headed by Kitanoumi Rijicho as customers. They will be selling "light" stuff, like coffee, beer and hot dogs. "Tasty!", summed one Oyakata. "But will only one cafeteria be enough?" It will be open between 10am to 5 pm daily during the bashos, and during other functions held at the KKan as well. Soft cream- 300 yen, Chicken nuggets- 250 yen, Nikuman, Anman, Batman- 400 yen- the plan is to make it an "open-cafe", meaning maybe that parts of it will be without a roof?? Jonosuke Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 And the Rijicho asked "Why is there no rice?" Since they seem to be into non-rice types I'd like to have them include bagels with cream cheese and grits. Anyway I thought this place was for media types only... Jonosuke Still thinking of food.
Kintaro Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I heard you can now leave the Kokugikan, snag a lunch, and get back in. If that's correct, the food problem is greatly simplified by the excellent choices only a few minutes away. Does anyone know it it's true, that we can get back in? I'll be at the Aki Basho for days 7-15. Cheers, Kintaro!

(not main gate) Will be there day 15 too - fancy a beer? :-P

Turns out it is just a dedicated food stall that has replaced a beer / snack / souvenir stand. Only real difference is the lack of souvenirs & food available and layout. Has a standing area to eat in but no-one does - all return to their seats. Restaurant of old remains in main place but the 500 yen beer is a bummer - used to be cheaper!
