Responsibility as Harumafuji's Oyakata, Isegahama himself asked to resign. As for Terunofuji and Ishiura who were also present, they have been severely cautioned. Takanohana? We shall see.. Isegahama himself asked to resign? That seems very harsh, is there precedence? "resign as riji" -- which I interpret as accepting a demotion before it is enforced, leaving the Kyokai leadership but continuing as Oyakata and staying in the Kyokai. His punishment can't be lower than that of Takanohana since he is the offender's Oyakata. Edited December 20, 2017 by orandashoho

Reason-as the leading Yokozuna, he should have done more to prevent this. Kakuryuu is to blame to a lesser extent, hence the difference in punishment. Hakuhou will lose 4,230,000 yen ($37,000). Kakuryuu will lose 2,820, 000 yen ($25,000). Hakkaku will lose 4,345,000 yen ($38,000).
orandashoho Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 It makes me wonder... The haven't enforced kyujo for Hatsu 2018, right? If they fight in the January basho, can they still earn kensho? Or can the NSK forbid sponsors to put kensho on their bouts?

Dapeng Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 The YDC also criticized Hakuho for being too aggressive in his bout, reminded me again that the legendary Raiden was forbidden to use certain techniques ...
ryafuji Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Wouldn't want to be Kakuryu right now. He was already under pressure to perform well or retire having missed some or all of the previous four tournaments, now he's being punished for someone else's bad behavior and there will be even more scrutiny on him.
Asashosakari Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 (edited) 8 hours ago, Kintamayama said: Hakuhou and Kakuryuu should be orally reprimanded, said the YDC today. "Harumafuji did the right thing to retire immediately. "Hakuhou and Kakuryuu were present during the assault, but couldn't stop it from happening. They should be reprimanded for that. Takanohana should be criticized for his behavior. These were our unanimous decisions," said Chairman Kitamura. Hakuhou and Kakuryuu were present. To add, the YDC felt compelled to put a quasi-official judgement on the whole matter, and outright stated that they would have given the dreaded "retirement advice" if Harumafuji hadn't fallen on his sword on his own. Has there ever been a case where the "retirement advice " was given but the Kyokai ignored it?

Get yelled at by Harumafuji then pushed away is a months pay for going berserk. My flight got delayed, probably should blame Kakuryu for that too. I mean if he'd left a mark on Harumafuji after Takanoiwa got hit trying to subdue him the penalty would've been worse no doubt. Before Takanoiwa got hit? Well, this isn't minority report.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm willing to stake my mahjong and say that Hakuhou and Kakuryuu stood by for a good few seconds as Harumafuji was thrashing Takanoiwa, as in their eyes he deserved it for being a disrespectful person towards a Yokozuna. Don't forget the reason given for the assault. "He needed to be taught respect" something Harumafuji said not in private but during his intai press conference Harumafuji actually went berserk on Hakuhou's behalf, as the disrespect initially was aimed at Hakuhou. Churaumi Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Isegahama jumping to resign doesn’t seem like that big a deal. He’ll get it back next election and it preempted other people picking a punishment for him.

I've mentioned this before but I should say it again. I'm no yokozuna, but if someone else started suddenly thrashing someone in our company I'd probably be a deer in headlights for a good while too before realizing I should probably do something about it... 2

That wouldn't be much of a punishment. 1
