Pardon this Haiku,

Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn,

Just a shameless bump.

(but now a serious one)

For one man's dark will,

Those who once loved, laughed and breathed,

Stare sightless, upwards.

I've enjoyed reading your haikus, i hope you are all well and safe in these sad times.

Takayasu choked.
Wakatakakage is
Our new first-time champ.

Shin-sekiwake?
Wakatakakage is
Very much unfazed.

Change of shikona?
Wakatakakage says,
Thanks, but no thank you.

Easier scheduling?
But Wakatakakage
fought higher rankers.

Bout controversy?
Wakatakakage does
not care, he has won.

See what I mean? Only one spot available. (sorry, @Seiyashi, out of reactions for the morning)

I mean, at the risk of quibbling, that makes the haiku easier to create, not so much more difficult. When only one spot is available, the requirements of syntax and semantics means the haiku practically writes itself - the only thing left that can accompany Wakatakakage is either a verb or a conjunction, most of the time.

Boring, on the other hand... (Beingninja...)

I wouldn't presume to make serious suggestions about a centuries-old, world famous poetry form that almost cannot (nay, should not) be rendered in any language but the original.  However, we may have stumbled on to an even more restrictive poetic form: five syllables, then seven syllables with either "syllable-Wakatakakage" or "Wakatakakage-syllable", then five syllables.  Maybe we can continue to loosen the restrictions about mentioning nature and seasons and stuff.  We can't call this form a Waka, because that's already taken (and I don't care if "it uses different characters!")*. Therefore, we need a name for this new super-obscure poetic form.

* I don't even care if it does use the same characters

I made this haiku

After watching shogi games

Now back to sumo

(Writer's note: There's Meijin Shogi match this Saturday and Sunday, I may watch them both simultaneously)

First in a series (maybe):  Basho summary in three lines. Line 1: Days 1-5; Line 2: Days 6-10; Line 3: Days 11-15.  Feel free to contribute.

Teru kyujo, right?

Can Ozeki at least try?

Playoff! No, Teru
