yutarotanaka Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 On 4/12/2018 at 13:57, Kintamayama said: More fuel on the fire-the Kyokai asked to exclude girls from this year's children sumo in Shizuoka during the Fujisan Shizuoka jungyo that was held on the 8th of April. "We would like you to restrain girls from mounting the dohyo," was what the Kyokai asked the organizers. We are talking about rikishi facing elementary school children, including girls. Apparently head of that jungyo Araiso Oyakata (ex-Tamakasuga) called them on the phone on the 4th to ask them to refrain from allowing girls to take part in this. This Fujisan basho has been held yearly since 2013 and till now girls were welcome. and 5 girls were planning to participate. "This sudden exclusion has left some of the children very sad. I would like them to return to the dohyo next time," said the prefecture sumo league's head Mr. Shitamura. According to the Kyokai PR office, they decided to change how things are done during the jungyo starting this March and this was one of the changes. "It was pointed out to us by organizers and others that girls have a tendency to get injured more than boys and we were asked us to deal with this. We are doing this out of regard for their safety," said someone from the PR department. 14 hours ago, Akinomaki said: the call for applications - this year: no girls!, last year: girls only pre-school age o It's like the NSK is doubling down on this 'no women on the dohyo' issue/scandal. They're being total douches now.
maorencze Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Tradition or not, this is a PR bomb that could severely damage public opinion and affect ticket sales. Even traditionalists in any country (Japan included) understand that times they are a changin' and women in society play much different role. Not sayin to just scrap the tradition alltogether, but understanding that current stance does not help their PR and behaving accordingly would be nice, for a change

It's an issue with foreign sumo fans and the media- The die hard sumo fans who populate the stands couldn't care less. On the contrary, if anything, it strengthens their conviction that tradition is above all. Edited April 13, 2018 by Kintamayama 1 1
Kintamayama Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Kisenosato trained with Juryo Meisei today. 9 bouts, won them all. When he got the left hand grip, his opponent was helpless. Some throws were seen as well. Yesterday he was also OK but did lose some bouts. "I reflected on yesterday's bouts and made the adjustments. I'll be taking things seriously now," he said. "I chose Meisei because he was doing the best keiko and he comes in low," explained Kisenosato when asked. Yesterday after his keiko he left for the back of the stadium, but this time he strayed dohyo-side and did some fundamental shiko and suriashi, keeping his eyes on the goings-on on the dohyo."Not pointing your butt to the dohyo means something. When I was coming up, the best place to observe your potential opponents was dohyo-side and it made me stronger. That's where I check out the young guys," he said, even though most of these guys are from Juryo or lower Maegashira and would not be facing him soon. 3 2
Kintamayama Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Kakuryuu faced emerging Endou for 13 bouts and won them all today. "I was reaffirming my own mobility. good keiko," he said. Quick first step and attack, solid performance. His fingers are not fully healed yet, but he is not in any hurry. "My finger is still painful but that doesn't mean I can't do sumo. I want to move along while building my body," he summed calmly. 2

Kintamayama Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Kisenosato won the one-day knockout tournament today in Fujisawa, Kanagawa. I really don't know how serious the "tournament" is, but there you have it. He did not do any keiko in the morning, just the basic shiko and rubber tube training. The tournament consisted of 16 Makuuchi rikishi. He beat Tamawashi, Shoudai and Kaisei on the way to the finals against heya-mate Takayasu, who he beat for the yusho. In all bouts, he got his favorite left hand grip. Still no word if he is entering May, and I have no idea if the other two Yokozunae participated in the tournament or not. 3

Akinomaki Posted April 14, 2018 Author Posted April 14, 2018 Sure, injuries are a persistent problem for the NSK ... ... but one would expect them to hide that outsiders get injured in large quantities as well
since_94 Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Hope Kisenosato will come back strong when the time is right. I would like to see him do well. Hope he won’t rush it for May if he’s not 100%.

Taikoubana Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Is there no available footage of Kise's one-day knockout tournament win? Or any footage of that tournament in general?

Taikoubana Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 I'm aware, but I thought I recalled some footage from last year's knockout tournament popping up online after the event? Could be wrong. Thanks anyway. Also, it's nice to see Enho on baby-holding duty! He's looking sharp. Can't wait to see how he performs in May after having gone up against sekitori.

Kintamayama Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 Kisenosato took on 170 kilo Makuuchi Yutakayama yesterday in Kashiwa, Chiba. He won all 10 bouts, focusing on his oshi this time, coming in low and not fussing with the belt. "It's been a while since I faced an opponent from Makuuchi and and I think it was good. My mobility is improving and I just want to continue doing what I have to do.." he said. 3
