The two dashed forward simultaneously. Legitimate starting.

As to the famous one of Harumafuji, if Harumafuji did not stop but continue moving forward to push Geeku out, I believe the referee and supervisors would call false starting.

Harumafuji said before the basho when he knew he was the only Yokozuna that even if he is banged up it is his responsibility as sole Yokozuna to fight all 15 days.

He still has three chances to golden stars. Will he break the record of 5 golden stars in one basho?

Don't know what you're seeing there???? No more chances to give up a kinboshi, I think

Harumafuji showing Ishiura how that dancing twirly bit is done. If the grocery store story (elbow in the eye) is true, which I'm guessing it is, I'm pulling for anyone against Ichinojo. Maybe it was an accident, but folks don't normally turn around with their elbows high. I hope all the rikishi will give him some special love this basho. ...maybe the next one, too.

What grocery store story? Ichinojo is the gentlest of gentle giants in ozumo.

No. Harumafuji should only face sanyaku opponents. Komusubi Tamawashi on Day 12, Sekiwake Yoshikaze on Day 13, Sekiwake Mitakeumi on Day 14 and Ozeki Goeido on Day 15.

Sure. I forgot that sanyaku rikishi do not earn kinboshi.

Ishiura spinning Takarafuji: if he falls on the east side I'll get kensho money!

Takarafuji: is this some kind of lottery/gambling? My name is Takarafuji! (this is wordplay: takarakuji means lottery. He's literally saying is this takarakuji? I'm Takarafuji)

Writing at the bottom pointing to Takarafuji: this is the guy winning this bout.

Aside from the fact that Terunofuji is kyujo, the other four sekitori from Isegahama all have the same win-loss records (7-4) as at Day 11.  What are the odds of that?  The main difference is that Harumafuji has virtually no chance of winning a championship in the Top Division, whereas both Ami-chan and Homarefuji have outside chances in Juryo...

Takarafuji...doesn't look like a real powerhouse. I cannot recall a single bout that he won with so much aplomb that I just went "wow".

I agree that he doesn't look like a real powerhouse. That's why I was surprised when I read a post here on the forum a couple of years. It quoted Isegahama oyakata as saying that Takarafuji is incredibly strong and that he can bench press some crazy weights. Come to think of it, could it be I mistook a quote about Terunofuji?

^ And from the very next post in that thread:

Endou has most probably decided to enter Haru. "Barring any accidents and if he maintains his current condition, he will be entering, I guess.." said Oitekaze Oyakata. Final decision - tomorrow morning, which is right about...now.

Everything old is new again!

His bout in Osaka last year against Tochinoshin was pretty special - the dude has power but he fights too defensively.

That said, I pray for the day something snaps and he lobs someone 5 rows deep into the good seats....

I've seen him up close (like literally right in front of me) during Isegama-beya training camps and he is extremely muscular and huge even by sumo standards. Yet Terunofuji is so large himself that he makes even Takarafuji appear small by comparison.

You forgot Terutsuyoshi but he is OK at 6-5.

Anyone notice that the 5 Isegahama sekitori have picked up their pace since Terunofuji's kyujo?

11-14 in the first 5 days

23-7 from Day 6 until yesterday, including 2 5-0 sweeps on Day 6 & Day 9

Whacky Aki Basho indeed.

I seriously don't know what to make of Goiedo's hesitation against Shohozan mid bout after the separation and Shohozan was at the edge.

It's such a shame that Hokutofuji's left wrist got injured. He was doing so well, and I'm a fan of his, but now he's finally got his makekoshi. I was really hoping he would make it all the way to san'yaku this basho...
