Asashosakari Posted August 27, 2017 Author Posted August 27, 2017 (edited) Arawashi (M12e 8-7) ahead of Ishiura (M8w 7-8), but Sadanoumi (M14e 8-7) behind Daishomaru (M11w 7-8)...sure, why not. Puzzling placement of Chiyonokuni and Takarafuji relative to one another, too. And Endo even lower than my (so I thought) aggressive demotion to M13e. Hype honeymoon over for good? Sakura Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 I had Ichinojo in the right place, but the other 7-8s have strange positions - as you alluded to. 8 minutes ago, Asashosakari said: Arawashi (M12e 8-7) ahead of Ishiura (M8w 7-8), but Sadanoumi (M14e 8-7) behind Daishomaru (M11w 7-8)...sure, why not. I had Arawashi ahead of Ishiura and Sadanoumi behind Daishomaru, but not in the right slots. But when you put it like that I must have been taking whatever the committee had to come up with it. I had Endo at M13w, for what it's worth. I'm also surprised to see Tokushoryu not at M16, since he seemed to be only half a rank from demotion.
Yubinhaad Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 A short list of shikona changes this time, with the four teenagers from the lower divisions all giving up their surnames and adopting their first proper shikona. Actually, in Wayama's case the middle kanji of Musashigawa-beya in inserted into his surname to produce Wagurayama. Meanwhile, Yanagawa's new shikona takes the first kanji of Odake-beya and adds his given name Tatsuki, with the reading altered to Ryuki. J11e Chiyoo > Chiyonoo (千代ノ皇) Sd67e Kobayashi > Kaishu (海舟) Sd75w Wayama > Wagurayama (和蔵山) Sd92w Mibu > Amatsukasa (天司) Jd98w Yanagawa > Dairyuki (大竜輝) One other note, Isenoumi-beya's Jonokuchi yobidashi Daiki has called it quits already, having entered only in March. 1 1
Benihana Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 (edited) Bad beat for Myogiryu and Aminishiki. A 10-5 at J4 normally guarantees a promition (only 5 times where a J4 landed at J2, 16 times J1). The last time a J4 had to stay with 10-5 was Wakanoyama 1999.03. And it never happened to J4E and J4W at the same time. Well, on the other side...another record for the old man. Keitenkai has reached the 5-year mark since his ill-fated two days as a juryo rikishi. It's not quite Towanoyama-in-makuuchi levels of tragic, but it's pretty close. Meanwhile, Kitataiki finds himself unsalaried for the first time in 61 tournaments. Birthdays: August saw Amuru turn 34 and Jokoryu 29, while Daishoho gets 23 candles today (Monday). Kaonishiki will turn 39 on Day 5 of the tournament, and Wakanoshima will be 33 late in September after the basho has concluded. Bumpkin Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 I just noticed that Takagenji is an ex-sekitori at age 20. When was the last time someone that young or younger was an ex-sekitori?

Burajirotono Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Kaisei is back biotches; vai Brasil porra! I was hoping to see Tochinoshin in sanyaku again, the man is strong and is getting more and more experienced; bulldozer-yutso. With Kakuryu, Kisenosato, Harumafuji and Terunofuji in bad shape he have a golden opportunity in Aki. Mitakeumi, Takayasu and Hokutofuji too. Cant wait
