He's getting better...

Hate to say this, but looks waaaay more comfortable on the dohyo than a certain recent, a lot more hyped-up ex-sumotori from North America...

Texas? Is he the highest ranked American in sumo currently? I'll have to go to a search for him, as I don't even know what division he's wrestling in. Thnaks for the post!

There is currently only one American in ozumo. Sd21w Musashikuni. He is the nephew of his and Wakaichiro's shisho Musashigawa Oyakata (former Yokozuna Musashimaru). He gets absolutely no publicity on this forum. I still root for him.

You're not counting Wakaichiro? Or Fujinohana?

Does the NSK count them as Americans? I have been on the forum for 3 years and this is the first time I have heard of Fujinohana.

Does it matter what the Kyokai thinks? I'd have thought them being American by citizenship would be sufficient for American fans to have a rooting interest in them, if that's what they're interested in.

I do root for Wakaichiro. I also root for Musashikuni. Other than them, are there any other American, dual American or part American rikishi in Ozumo?

I absolutely do not root for people solely for the reason that they share a citizenship with me.  Or were born on the same continent.  I only "root" for people I predict will do well, and only in the sense that I'm disappointed when they don't.  But I'm not exactly normal.

Fujinohana I had never heard of, or at least don't recall hearing of, before this thread.  He might have had people interested in him when he first entered, but he's done nothing of interest, being a mid-Sd rikishi at 30 years old.

Yeah he was frozen and didn't flow well. I met the Canadian one time, he was nice but was already thinking of alternatives so maybe he wasn't in it. This guy is moving, which is good, just needs to find the right ones.

I don't remember from reading information about him, but does Wakaichiro have a background in football? His movements remind me of an offensive lineman, from what I remember of the drills back in the day.

I recall that name Musashikuni. Wasn't he the one that knocked out another wrestler at the tachi-ai a few months back? I recall that video made the rounds in the news.

Edit: Yes, that was him. Here's the news article:
