Wow...just saw Ura's day 4 fight. I'm really impressed that the gyoji (I believe it was Kimura Keinosuke) caught Onosho's foot going out before Ura's body flew over the tawara. The grumbling in the arena suggested that people were dissatisfied with the call, but the gyoji clearly got it right.

If only baseball were adjudicated as well, I'd...well, no, I still wouldn't watch it. ;-)

On TV, my wife and I thought Ura clearly lost and were wondering why there is no monoii.   On a slow motion replay, it was clear that Ura won.   Wow, he's 3-1 and that's a good start for a kachikosh.   Most of us are thinking otherwise but Ura seems to be determined to prove us wrong.

Hakuho vs Takakeisho match was the most entertaining among all the Makuuchi matches.   I never seen Hakuho do what he did in the match.   "C'mon, little guy.  Come and get me."

Live action butsugari geiko for the audience in the musubi no ichiban. What a way to close out the day. Had to figure Takakeisho would give Hakuho a fight but I never expected Hakuho to do that. I'm wondering what Sato's shisho will be saying to him tonight.

I have to say that things aren't looking too bright for Kakuryu at this point. I'm sure the higher ups in the NSK are going to start saying something, and watching the NHK broadcast Izutsu oyakata is also making mention of facing the inevitable if Kakuryu can't compete at full strength anymore. Looks like Aki could be a very important basho.

The walking injured Kise and Harumafuji were able to pull off wins today, pulling themselves back to 2-2. At this point they're just trying to get KK.

Takayasu leading the ozeki pack and showing Mitakeumi why HE is the ozeki. Goeido making quick work of Ikioi, and Hokutofuji making his presence known in the joi after having defeated one yokozuna and two ozeki, Terunofuji being his latest victim.

Got to give it to Tamawashi, he kept it cool with the onslaught from the Geek. The Geek looks like he could be making a return to the maegashira ranks for the first time since 2010.

Ura vs Onosho provided a pretty entertaining end there, the crowd didn't know what to believe, thinking that Ura had lost, Ura thinking there was a monoii when it just the judges getting up to grab some beers after a long hard day.

Hakuho looked like he was having fun out there. I love watching him do his thing.

Kaisei is ON FIRE! He destroyed Azumaryu while trying some new kimarite, something obscure called yorikiri (I'm not sure it is in the official kimarite list)! Just 5 more wins to go!

Yori-kiri is listed as one of his favourite techniques and he's used it in 57% of his last 30 wins according to his Kyokai profile - am I missing something?

I thought the joke was that he used yorikiri for the first time in a long time. Guess I was wrong............

In Hakuho-Takakeishi I thought they'd switched from Sumo to Bökh! This "standing-up" is what happens frequently there.

And then it was like Hakuho is saying "my father was Darkhan Avarga - and if you want to have this you can have it!"

You know when they show hakuho training some newbies and throwing them off the dohyo? yeah, that was the last bout today.

Hakuho, the mighty lion-tamer!
How could he make himself any more superior?
School time for Takakeisho. He finally initiated a very bold and strong attack, but Hakuho could easily stop him, and then took Takakeisho for a walk...

The King is the King.

I couldn't help but laugh when I watched Chiyotairyu vs Ishiura. Once Ishiura got inside, Chiyotairyu's desperate attempts to get any kind of belt hold were comical.

Oh boy, Kotoshogiku should see the signs and call it quits before it gets too embarassing.

After the Chiyoshoma-henka i wondered for a few minutes, when we had seen the last HNH and *BAM* there it was (Laughing...)

Hakuho was all "come at me bro". Loved it. Some may say it was arrogant, but sometimes you have to show who is king of the hill. Deal with it B-)

Very exciting basho so far. The career-high youngsters are a big surprise. When was the last time a newbie scored more than 1 kinboshi at his joi-debut? 1 kinboshi, 2 ginboshi and without further kyujo Hokutofuji still has 3/1 shots!

Yeah, that made me laugh. Chiyotairyu totally panicked when Ishiura got hold of him.

I've never seen anything like what Hakuho did to Takakeisho. I've no idea how it has been received 'officially', but I loved it. Win or lose, I'm especially enjoying all the young dudes' bouts this basho.

Does anyone happen to know how many kensho were on the Harumafuji-v.-Tochinoshin bout?  Harumafuji has yet to break into the Top 10 in Nagoya...

Sorry - wrong thread. ;-(

As I've previously mentioned, Takakeisho's style has always been timely oshi-attacks and the occasional nage, both of which he's very good at, ever since his wanpaku days.

He did his usual stuff today against Hakuho, and was holding his own. Hakuho's "come at me bro" was to lure Takakeisho into a yori-battle, and Takakeisho duly took the bait. As soon as he went in for the belt, it was always going to be Hakuho's win, and a fast win at that. I feel that he would have stood a better chance if he stayed patient and kept to his own game.

If it was anyone but Hakuho who did the "c'mon" gesture, he'd been crucified by the fan and media.   But this is the GOAT and the opponent was a newbie joi.   And IMHO, Takakeisho exudes arrogant confidence in every step he makes.   Although I am not a fan of Hakuho, I loved it when he "schooled" Takakeisho.   It was as if to say, don't get too big in your head.  You gotta earn respect, little guy.   This reminded me of a Kung Fu TV series episode where the master says, paraphrasing, "when you can snatch this pebble from my hand, you are ready to leave the temple."

Certainly one of the those bouts to remember eternally, but as much as I love Hakuho, I would have laughed even more if Takakeisho blasted him out.

I've been enjoying this basho a lot. Some interesting turns of events, and we've had a number of excellent matches. I get the feeling we're going to see some crazy stuff go down before senshuraku.

This is one of the main reasons I like sumo.

Another reason?   Which combat sport is there where there is no weight class?   There are too many David and Goliath matches and David seems to win fair percentage against the giants.

Now here's a question that begs answering:

Is this Aoiyama's basho? ;)

And I think the answer is "no".
