Wrong assumption, then... Gymnasts, who have heavily callused palms, will sometimes experience a "rip" which is the callus splitting (and of course, the skin with it). 1

Amamaniac Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 1 hour ago, Benihana said: "The Cop"? Another die-hard fan like Golden Hat? To be clear, Robocop (aka Takamisakari; currently Furiwake) is filling in for Jinmaku as a judge and was seated beside the ring for this bout. The commentators were saying how nervous he was about his new duty. He gets crushed by Kotoyuki for his trouble. No wonder he was nervous! LOL What strikes me is that when Takamisakari was still wrestling, everyone (esp. women) wanted to touch him. But now that he is a judge and seated down near the fans, people are no longer reaching out to touch him. He has lost his mojo or sumo "mana", I guess.
Benihana Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 (edited) *facepalm* Could have thought of that myself...i knew he had shimpan duty... Finally had the time to watch the video. Hilarious Almost as if they did it on purpose Have i missed any major upsets today? Quite a normal day it seems to me. I fear that intai is very near for Tochinoshin. It hurts. @pmac Maybe he can't stand the thought of Mitakeumi winning their private race and it gives him some extra boost. Edited March 13, 2017 by Benihana
pmac Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 did shodai unleash his fury? he is looking so much more aggressive than last bashos....or is that poor imagination?
RabidJohn Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 6 hours ago, Dwale said: It was the case as recently as the early 20th century. If I'm remembering an early episode of 'QI' correctly, the modern western notion of pink for a girl and blue for a boy started to appear in the 1920s - before that it was pretty much the opposite. It's far from universal, though. Check out the amount of pink on show at a Spanish bullfight, which is exclusively masculine in the same way as Ozumo as far as participating is concerned. I've also frequently heard the phrase 'pink pound' used to refer to the spending power of the homosexual community in the UK. So from my western-prejudiced point of view, Ura's baby pink mawashi came as a minor shock (see, I even think of it as 'baby' pink!) when I first saw it in juryo, but then I decided it was cherry blossom pink, which is far more Japanese. Anyway, what about the basho? I don't know if he'll take the yusho (though I kind of hope he does), but Kise's looking like the strongest yokozuna atm. Very calm and confident, like all the furore and extra commitments since his promotion have just washed over him and he's carrying on where he left off last time. I'm quite impressed so far. I'm hoping all the Y/Os can stay in this time to give him a proper test, but he's looking up for it. Is Teru's recovery for real? I hope so. It would be great to go back to being excited about watching him, rather than uncomfortable. He looked fierce today. With sanyaku full of rikishi well capable of double-digit KKs for a change, I'm wondering if they can do enough damage to each other and the Y/Os to see the yusho race wide open for a hiramaku winner. 1
Benevolance Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Based on these first two days of results, I'm declaring this tournament a Kotoshogiku Zensho Yusho*! *actual result may vary. consult your doctor if rash occurs. 3
Philioyamfugi Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 The giku watch is at 2-0 .... Go kotoshugiku !
Kuroyama Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Twitter's translation from Bing: Village place, kisenosato each time that the "presence of mind" a I remember this picture I'm sure. Google's: Every time the rare village is called "normal heart", I will definitely remember this picture ... There's probably a way to get them to average out to something coherent. 1

robnplunder Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Mitakeumi looks like a future Ozeki for sure. Of course, staying injury free will be a key factor. Ura got manhandled on day 2 but Ishiura got an exciting win. For a change, Terunofuji started well out of the gate. 'Giku seemed well positioned to get his Ozeki ranking back. But in both cases, it's too early to call. My bet is Terunofuji to stave off kadoban but 'Giku to fail on his attempt to recapture the Ozeki rank.
Gurowake Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 (edited) After failing to get a single uwatenage win among his 5 last basho, Kizenryu's rate of winning with that kimarite fell below 50%. He had gotten back over 50% after all four of his wins in Kyushu were by uwatenage. But he's on the path to recovery, with a Day 2 uwatenage win over Iwasaki. Edited March 14, 2017 by Gurowake

Tiger Tanaka Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Very impressed by Mitakeumi so far in 2017. Hope he continues to do well.

I thought the same thing. Last basho Shodai looked like he was afraid of Hakuho in his bout he had with him, but just in these first couple of days he is looking more fearless and aggressive. It seems like he has worked on his tachiai. I thought he came at it a bit too high and maybe a little too slowly in the past. These young guys are growing rapidly...! Akinomaki Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Did the NHK guy say "Ura's win" as Ishiura won?
