Does the face look more like a fairly young Kotoshogiku than Kisenosato? Perhaps it was designed a while back and the artist was hedging his bets.

That is very well observed compared to all the other merchandise I've seen, which steadfastly ignores Kise's Vulcan salute. I can only assume the artist is a Trekker.

I might have used the hype rikishi thread - I had to expand it to others after some replies - but even though there is now a massive Kise hype, I don't want to put him with the plain hype rikishi who have yet to accomplishment something.

Might be something for sumo trivia, but it's not trivial: the immediate positive economic effect of having the new Japanese yokozuna Kisenosato is calculated to be 2248.56 million yen for the next 12 months, mainly for selling Kise related goods - about 1011 million yen for other companies (esp. food) and 1238 million for the NSK, rise in ticket sales included, esp. jungyo and a bit room for more sales is at regional basho. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1790002.html

At the basho Kise goods of course sold best, also chanko restaurants nearby were packed. The Japonica note books were especially popular: the shop who sold Kototsurugi design goods had ordered 3000: 650 were sold on day 1, on day 6 they had to limit sales to 1 per person and on the last day Kise's mother couldn't get one - sold out - but she was content: "If it is so that my son is loved by all the people, I'm happy." http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/economy/20170328-OYT1T50072.html
