ScottyJoyJrBebe Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 The 3 highest ranked rikishi all lost, how long has it been since THAT happened? The last 2 days of sumo have been most exciting.
Kuroyama Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I had a bad feeling about Kise at the shikiri, and said so in stream chat. He was breathing hard and looked nervous. So did Giku, but he can handle it better. Kise falls apart when he gets tense. And he did. Hopefully he can get his head screwed back on straight for today.
Rocks Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Sokokurai wanted to win against Ichinojo bad. He looked pretty upset after losing. But he got beat every step of the way. Easy win for Ichi.
Rocks Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Sumo is doing pretty well lately right? Can someone please explain to me why the heck they can't spend a few bucks and fix that dang hole the sheetrock in the East hallway already? It's been like that for over a year now. 1

Easy win for Ichi. I'm really not sure what Sokokurai was trying to do there. Did he think he could simply out-muscle Ichinojo with some forward-moving sumo? It was a weird decision from an ambi-turner that could have circled around Ichinojo in either direction.

After I saw the match between Kisenosato and Kotoshogiku, I thought: "It's time to find a good therapist, Kisenosato!" I'm not sure why he clinches at almost every one of his career's most important bouts, but I'm certain, that it's something in his head. Usually he looks very calm, and focused. But then these matches come... It would be an interesting idea for him. I'm not sure if any rikishi receive mental help from professionals, but in Kisenosato's case, it would be advised. Does anyone know about therapists connected to any heya?

hamcornheinz Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I don't really buy the "Kisenosato chokes" narrative, he still has a losing record against the majority of the top dogs, certainly a large enough number to account for him not having any championships.
pmac Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 has anyone thought of the possibility that takanoiwa might take this off? last july he was 12 - 3 and jun yusho from m10, put one more to it and it isnt impossible if things continue like the last few days!
Bumpkin Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 This basho is wide open. That being said, I believe Hakuho will take it down.

Unfortunately, he has 12 jun-yushos against 0 yusho, which speaks for itself. That record is hard to argue against "Kise does not choke" theory. Kise can fix the perception by winning 5 - 6 yushos. Rocks Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Osunaarashi has got Ichinojo on Day 11 now. I swear they would have done him a bigger favor if they had left him in juryo.

At top level pro sports, having and playing with injury is norm. Some "body" can endure it better than others. Perhaps, Osu's body is not cut out for ozumo life. Ever since I've got into sumo watching, he appears to be injured more than healthy.
specialweek 2 Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Kisenosato has Terunofuji, Endo, Goeido, Kakuryu, Hakuho and Ikioi maybe left to fight or if Takanoiwa keeps winning does he get to tackle M10?
Rocks Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Kitataiki just committed the most blatant hair pull ever. Asahisho actually pointed at his head at the end to make sure they saw it. They did. DQ for Kitataiki. Also, MK for Kita. Edited January 17, 2017 by Rocks

Asahisho pointing at his hair and flopping his hair around was fun.
Rocks Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Wow, Aminishiki lost and is 3-7 so a MK for sure here. Looked very tired. That puts him 1 MK away from makushita. We may be looking at and end of an era if he can't get it together in March.
Rocks Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Oyanagi beat Toyohibiki. He was in trouble the entire bout but pulled it out at the end.

His reflex is gone. His tricks are well known. Young kids are just too strong. It's time for Ami to exit with some dignity. Edited January 17, 2017 by robnplunder
Rocks Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Wow, that long match took everything out of Osunaarashi. It looked like he was going to be sick walking back in. Poor guy.

MumboJumbo Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Given that Goeido (GOEIDO) pulled out a zensho yusho, I wouldn't go as far to guarantee that Hakuho will never zensho again. Anybody can get lucky, nothing is certain. The whole narrative that Hakuho is pulling the strings from his UFO is laughable at best. Nothing to take seriously. 1

robnplunder Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 That charge by Chiyoshoma and kenka by Ishiura was almost comical. Chiyshoma would have lost even if Ishiura didn't grab/touch Chiyoshoma.
Rocks Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 After that matta Chioshoma should have seen that henka coming from a mile away.
