Senkoho Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Only now did I notice that Ama did indeed grab the vertical part of the mawashi between Goeido's legs while picking him up! Looks hansoku-ish to me. 1

Looks hansoku-ish to me. Yeah, in one clip I've heard the English announcer mention during the replay that he's not suppose to grip the mawashi there. It probably technically should have been a foul, but I doubt anyone noticed it as it happened and there was no apparent reason for a mono-ii until it was seen on the replay, well after they could have done anything about it.

Looks hansoku-ish to me. Nothing "ish" about it, that was a hansoku but no one called it so... it was an Ama win instead. Almost fujomake though I assume if it is caused by hansoku then Goeido would get the win rather than a loss for just having it come undone. Could have been quite an eyeful on live NHK. 1

He can do it here before Ichinojo can figure out what to do. Ikioi vs Takrafuji - the battle of 3-1s. They are both doing well but one has to give. Mitakeumi vs Terunofuji - Terunofuji showed a sign of life in the last two bouts but I expect Mitakeumi to roll him over. That knee injury of Teru isn't going anywhere. Harumafuji vs Endo - Endo is performing as he did in the last basho but Harumafuji is going to beat him. And then Hakuho vs Endo on Day 6! Let's see what this kid can do

robnplunder Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Ishiura, are you kidding me? You are truly the giant slayer.
Jakusotsu Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Chyioshoma vs. Arawashi . . . I'd hate to be the gyoji there.

robnplunder Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 (edited) Hmmm, I think Tamawashi just ended Takayasu's Ozeki hope. Terunofuji suddenly looking strong. His knee has gotten better after day 2? Edited November 17, 2016 by robnplunder

robnplunder Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Speaking of getting his !#$ together, how about Goeido after the last kadoban? Since the start of the last basho, he's now 19-0. Impressive, very impressive.
robnplunder Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Wow, Harumafuji walking all over Endo, and Endo has Hakuho next.
nadnadnad Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 After yesterday's awkward slip/fall on the dohyo I sure hope Harumafuji's right ankle holds for the rest of the basho. He looks good today.
Benihana Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 8 hours ago, Gurowake said: Yep, it's easy to forget, but Hakuho is the low Yokozuna this basho, facing the highest ranked Ozeki on the last day, who this basho happens to be Goeido. Given that Hakuho has been Yokozuna the entire time Goeido's been in Makuuchi and this is the first time Goeido has been the top Ozeki, they have not met on Day 15 before, but did meet on Day 14 in Goeido's first Makuuchi basho (two days after Ama did the okuritsuriotoshi on him which I suspect many people remember). https://www.youtube.com/embed/EPO39qtj1Vk?autoplay=1 Love it. Please someone do this again this basho. Like in life of Brian...thwow him to the floor! Damnit Aoiyama. Sooo effing close. At least there was no sign of any injury from yesterday, same for Harumafuji. Osu still in the lead. Please no injury, please no injury, please no injury. *fingerscrossed*
Jyuunomori Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Lots of good sumo today. Ishiura is beasting this basho. I hope he can keep this up. Osunaarashi is manhandling Juryo, as expected. Ura has won 3 concecutive matches after shaky start. Shodai looks super calm this basho, if he keeps winning like this could be Komusubi / Sekiwake next basho. Hakuho is Hakuho. And Goeido is still posessed by some otherwordly entity. 19-0 streak, what a beast. I actually hope he makes it. 14-1 Yusho or Jun-Yusho should give it to him.

Asashosakari Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Is this a serious query? Terunofuji's first two opponents managed to get morozashi against him, his next three didn't. Result: two losses followed by three wins. Wow!
Rocks Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 I don't know if Terunofuji is back, I certainly hope he is but I do think he will get his KK this basho. I think he will get a win tomorrow against Tochiozan. Tochiozan is 0-5, he isn't getting his KK. I'm not saying he'll throw that match but has no reason to push hard. One who is back is Osunaarashi. He'll be taking the Juryo yusho and he'll be back in makuuchi in January for sure. Other predictions? Endo and Shodai will be getting a kinboshi on Day 6 leaving Kakuryu and Goeido as the only undefeated with a shot at the Yusho. Doesn't matter though as whoever wins this won't be getting a zensho yusho. 1
Dwale Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 And that settles it, I'm now emphatically on board the Ishiura hype train. Very much looking forward to his matches from now on. Glad to see Terunofuji looking like he belongs in there. It's crucial that he racks up wins over the appetizers, here, before time comes to throw down with the elites. Careful, Goeido, you very nearly tasted the dohyo on that one. Good recovery, but shaky sumo. Careful, careful... It seems even the blazing aura edition of Endo is no match for Harumafuji. No shame in that, really, he's yokozuna for a reason. Yoshikaze is very tough to defeat in the tournaments wherein he's fired up. This is apparently not one of those. There! That's Tochinoshin, good. It was disheartening to see him turn in poor performances early when we know he's capable of so much better. Ikioi still doing well, and Kotoyuki finally looks like himself. Perhaps Kotoyuki has realized that he needs to diversify his attacks, which is why he's been experimenting this basho. We shall see. 1

I predict Terunofuji will get 8 wins and save his rank. He is starting to have a Goeido-esque career.

On the contrary, at 0-5 Tochiozan has every reason to push hard and get a win to aim for kachikoshi or at least soften his possible banzuke fall. If he gave up that easily he never would've made it to where he is. I like how Kagayaki is slowly creeping up the ranks. At Maegashira 9 now and still doing reasonably well, whereas he seemed to be struggling at the bottom of Makuuchi for a while. I hope he gets his kachikoshi and continues to climb up. And Ishiura... I still feel it's too early to buy a ticket for the hype train. But I like how he looks like a bodybuilder, just how that he won't mirror Shohozan in his career, who has a similar bodytype. 1

He seems to have adjusted his tachiai (and follow-up), especially yesterday and today, staying lower longer, thus generating more power and less easy access to his mawashi.. In any case, he looks better, mentally if not physically, let's see where that does get him...
