robnplunder Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Stare down actually works to psych oneself up. It gives something to focus on before the match start. If the opponent is intimidated by it, the better. Then again, at Makuuchi level, no one should get intimidated by the stare down. I doubt if anyone gets intimidated by a stare. It's all part of the show. 1
rhyen Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Hope harumafuji did not injure his right ankle in that last match.
Atenzan Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Hope Aoiyama is fine too. And Kotoshougiku- is his right knee fine? Seemed to me that it buckled there.
orandashoho Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Endo seems to have recaptured his pre-injury zest. My inexpert eye haven't seen any evidence of him favouring one leg. He's not only looking much better than before, he is looking like a serious contender! If he keeps this up, the sponsors are sure to flock back to him.

It's all part of the show. I respectfully disagree. Go through enough interviews with wrestlers and you will hear them admit, in so many words, that they were intimidated. Terunofuji admitted this after a loss to Kotoyuki earlier this year, while multiple rikishi have commented that Hakuho's stare-down makes them feel as though the strength has left their bodies. 1

The shukun-sho is normally awarded for defeating yokozuna or the winner of the yusho. Edited November 16, 2016 by ryafuji
Dwale Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Is Kotoyuki hiding an injury or what? Whatever his deal is, he needs to cut it out. I can overlook the occasional henka, particularly if a rikishi is injured or otherwise in dire straights, but the fans (not all, but I would think most) dislike it and it is best avoided for that reason. Moreover, he apparently sucks at it! Endo looking stronger than I've ever seen him. Good for him, great for the Japanese fans. Endo wrestling well = butts in seats + more TV viewership...and more cuddly toys, one assumes. Kotoshogiku had better rally, quick. The new and improved, extra strength Goeido in there getting it done. Woo! Sokokurai...he's doing well thus far. He's got power and he's got some skills, but there's just something about him that puts me off. Can't see myself getting behind him. But, credit where it's due. Takayasu looking good. He seems a little nonplussed with his victories, though I guess that's just him. He does this, "Pretty sure I left the oven on..." sort of face. Glad to see Terunofuji rally some; Shodai is the opposite of a cream-puff. I'm hoping he'll squeak eight wins by this one, but we'll have to see. After last basho, I'm not betting on it. Bad news for Harumafuji and Aoiyama both, by the looks of things. Of course, a good portion of makuuchi wrestlers are walking injuries anyway, and they were both on their feet before too much time had passed. I'm getting excited about Ishiura. What else has he got? Favorite win of the day: Kotoeiko, for showing me a kimarite I don't recall having seen before.
ALAKTORN Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 I’m taking credit for Endō’s wins. Aoiyama’s defense against Harumafuji was really impressive. I hope they’re alright. I loved the way Hakuhō won, really powerful tsukiotoshi and it’s like he took a pose to make it look effortless. Could Gōeidō be the real deal…? Good to see Kakuryū undefeated.
Akinomaki Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 (edited) Toyonoshima lost today - and with that also the chance for the immediate comeback to juryo from ms8 - a 6-1 yusho, most above him makekoshi and many demoted from juryo is the only scenario left for a return against all odds. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/ Edited November 16, 2016 by Akinomaki

Benihana Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Mmmh Aminishiki...that's how you pull. Pull it good, pull it real good... Seeing Osu lead the pack with 4-0 is reeeally nice, but i think the shinpan decided in his favour. Should have lost that. I hope that Harumafuji and Aoiyama didn't injure themselves too bad. 1
robnplunder Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 (edited) What to look for on day 5, at least for me: Ishiura vs Ichinojo - Ishiura already slayed one giant. He can do it here before Ichinojo can figure out what to do. Ikioi vs Takrafuji - the battle of 3-1s. They are both doing well but one has to give. Mitakeumi vs Terunofuji - Terunofuji showed a sign of life in the last two bouts but I expect Mitakeumi to roll him over. That knee injury of Teru isn't going anywhere. Harumafuji vs Endo - Endo is performing as he did in the last basho but Harumafuji is going to beat him. Edited November 16, 2016 by robnplunder

Morningstar Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Goeido is looking like a new man these days. I hope he can keep it up. If things keep going the way they are now, I am really looking forward to Goeido Vs Hakuho in week 2. I hope it is an epic battle that ends up in highlight videos for the next 50 years.

While I would not care for it as much, if we can get another classic & well deserved Henka like in Nagoya 2012 it would not be to awfully bad. Bumpkin Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Hakuho should face Goeido on Day 15, second to last match of the day. 1

Yep, it's easy to forget, but Hakuho is the low Yokozuna this basho, facing the highest ranked Ozeki on the last day, who this basho happens to be Goeido. Given that Hakuho has been Yokozuna the entire time Goeido's been in Makuuchi and this is the first time Goeido has been the top Ozeki, they have not met on Day 15 before, but did meet on Day 14 in Goeido's first Makuuchi basho (two days after Ama did the okuritsuriotoshi on him which I suspect many people remember). 2
hamcornheinz Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Predicting right now, that Kakuryu takes this one.
