Additionally, I am awaiting the representative team preference from Pitinosato and Maguroyama (I have PM'd and emailed them both, so hopefully they will make their picks before the deadline for the draw....)

Since I'm tracking goals again, I just want to run through my understanding of what I'm doing so 1) things can be corrected if I'm wrong, and 2) everyone else knows what's going on.

Group Play - I am NOT scoring the matches. That's for the Refiojis (or others) to do. I will, however, use those match final scores and track each player's Goals Scored and Goals Against for each of their 3 matches. After the 3rd match (and perhaps more frequently) I will post the total GS and GA for each player.

Round of 16, Quarters, Semis, Finals - I will, again, post GS and GA for each player after each round, with running totals.

Prizes - Simultaneously with the above I will also be tracking total GS and GA for prize awards:

Golden Gloves - fewest Goals Against

Golden Boot - most Goals Scored

I do NOT know what the tiebreakers to use in case players are tied for Gloves or Boot. Are there co-awards? Maybe I should go back and re-read from the beginning.

Corrections, clarifications, additions anyone?

I have updated the rules post #15 - this is based on the post made by Fukurou found here (from the previous World Cup) - it is post #748. Is this all clear now?

Drone rules....

I don't know how andonishiki is planning to help his baby make his picks, but for my little one, we are going to use balls (as for his pick for preference) representing the various teams for him to select from - this will include his selection of penalty takers for the later rounds..... so a bit like a monkey throwing darts. That means his picks should (hopefully) be random - as will his line-ups for each round.

There is still one empty slot left, so unless someone steps in quickly, this is what I propose to do (I want to write in the drone rules before I start making the selections for representative teams, so that there can be no bias considered, as I am guessing that the 'drone' will be an easy opponent to defeat.)

So, the drone will be named 'Mr Froggy' (after one of my baby's toys).

He will get last pick for representative teams, (i.e. the team that nobody else wants.) along with the counterbalance team.

The remainder of his squad will be made up of teams chosen at random (I will generate them) from each of the selection brackets.

Once his squad has been generated, he will then follow the full 'drone' rules as already outlined in detail in the 'Rules for Bench World Cup / Bench Euros' thread. (see message #14). Basically the drone's line-up for the group stages would be: Representative Team, Counterbalance Team, remaining teams in order of 'ability'. Penalty takers (for the later rounds) will also follow the drone rules already outlined.

Before I start doing the draw, one more announcement....

There is a good chance that not everyone will get a team to represent after the draw is completed. I will give a further 24 hours for such players (including Maguroyama, if he doesn't make his preference picks in time), to rank in order of preference the remaining teams. Mr Froggy (the drone) will not be given an option. He will get whatever is left! (If any player fail to make the final preference choices before that deadline, s/he will be randomly assigned a team.)

Due to the averaged 'odds' , I have decided to have 9 groupings (rather than 8)... Each group includes teams with similar odds.

So all players need to remember which is their representative pick, and which is their enforced (no choice) counterbalance pick. They need to remember these, as they must pick both of these two teams as part of their squads.

In addition to these two (no choice - and please note, this is very basic, so please make things easier for me/admin by selecting those two teams) every player can select an additional team from each of the following brackets:-
