He is getting a little more savvy and reactive, though. Don't forget he was very young and relatively inexperienced when he joined the Big League and suddenly standing like a rock didn't work any more.

Aminishiki's surgery seems to have been successful as he is has updated his blog this evening. He has publicly stated that he is NOT retiring and plans to come back as soon as possible.

In the past there were several rikishi came back after similar injury but all of them rested for multiple bashoes. If Ami makes it, he will probably have to start from makushita.

Like Tokitenku is planning?

It is all Ishiura, Chiyonokuni and Sato in Juryo now.

Somehow I have these visions of Sato 15-0.

I have to wonder if a 15-0 at J13 would be enough for promotion to Makuuchi.

When a 14-1Y for Endo was enough to be promoted from J13 to Makuuchi, why should a 15-0 not be sufficient?!

edit:

And 28 out of 29 sekitori who achieved 14 or more victories in Juryu where promoted to Makuuchi. [query]

All depends on the banzuke.

And just like that, no more undefeated wrestlers in the maegashira ranks. All down to Hakuho, Kakuryu, Kisenosato, Goeido, and Kotoshogiku.

Of course it depends on the banzuke and the other results.

But I think it will be very likely that they will find a spot for a "crowd puller" like Sato, if he should win the Yuhso with 14 or 15 wins.

You can't really blame the Neckless One for henka when Shoki came flying that low.

And did Kakuryu just verify that Ichinojo *is* a pushover?

Might happen, he certainly has the skills and tactical awareness to do it

7-0 is an auto promotion at the lower divisions - isn't 15-0 an auto promote for Juryo?

Except Makushita. Only if you are ranked 15 or higher in Makushita, and there have been cases when even that wasn't enough.

As for Juryo, I think from 12 upwards you get the nod but better people will have better answers.

It seems like all Goeido needed was one good basho at Ozeki and suddenly he is looking the real deal. Confidence is a wonderful thing - I hope he gets double digits again

There's no specific rule about it that I'm aware of, but I'm 99.9% sure they'd make it happen, even at the expense of an only borderline demotable maegashira or another promotable juryo guy.

15-0 is only an "auto-promote" because the division just isn't big enough. And as seen with Shimoda/Wakakeisho, that 7-0 in Makushita is subject to banzuke realities. In the latter's case there just wasn't any reasonable solution to promote him even though he got a 7-0 at Ms15 as there were others who really deserved it more and few demotable Juryo rikishi. So if there's a dearth of demotable Makuuchi rikishi (even if you slightly overdemote) and others at the top of Juryo with strong records, it's reasonable to think that it's possible that someone gets squeezed out, and it's not going to be a 9-6 J1, 10-5 J2 or 11-4 J3 in favor of a 15-0 J13. Over a 9-6 J3 or even J2, sure.

But there's still 11 days to go and he's going to face higher ranked opponents the rest of the tournament, so such discussion is vastly premature.

Juryo yusho's often go to lower digits than Makuuchi yusho's as well. It is premature, though premature is my middle name.

That's like saying 33 wins at sanyaku is only an auto-promote to Ozeki just because there doesn't exist another rank below Ozeki and above sanyaku :D

Someone killed Goeidou before last basho and took his skin. It is hard to believe that this is the same guy who was constantly struggling, basically against anyone.

Kotoshigiku's Yusho must have lit fire to both Kisenosato and Goeidou, there is not other explanation here. I kind of wish that Kisenosato actually gets his 14-1 this basho but I think Goeidou will ruin it for him and that Kisenosato will finish 13-2.
