Orion Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Today was the keiko soken official training for the YDC, open to the public for free. Several videos already, especially with Ura: https://www.youtube.com/user/hirochan60/search?query=20160429 I wuz there, for the first time in a few years. Still remembered Taiho sitting front left, and Hakuho immediately going round to greet him. Today, towards the end, I watched Hakuho apparently ready but at 10:45 he disappeared, so I decided to make a quick retreat before the main crowd made for the exits. Really, just the usual stuff... just wanted to check it out again. ] Orion 1
rhyen Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Did they leave to go man the Kumamoto fund raising counters?
Gurowake Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 As nice of a painting that it is, that Caravaggio looks a bit out of place. 2
d_golem Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Slap some medieval armors on them rikishis and you'll never know the difference...
Akinomaki Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 About 7000 watched (they don't open the whole kokugikan for spectators) http://www.sankei.com/sports/news/160429/spo1604290020-n1.html4K video of juryo and makuuchi, yokozuna-ozeki might follow NHK BS news Ura at the beginning still against makushitaall are waiting for this: IshiUra vs. Urabutsukari-geiko lesson from Aminishikialways injured Harumafuji and Terunofuji took part in keiko - Hakuho and Goeido didn'tproblems with the left kneeHarumafuji only against lower ranked opponents, e.g. komusubi Okinoumi - 13-0the others like it is planned: to show the YDC how yokozuna and ozeki do against each otherKisenosato prepares for the miracle promotion - 9-4, Kakuryu 7-6, Kotoshogiku 6-81.2 million yen for Kumamoto were collected by the rikishi 4
hamcornheinz Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I'm drooling at the thought of Hakuho beating up Ura in practice... probably only when he makes shin makuuchi, I guess..
inhashi Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 (edited) Many pics circulating as seen from above. Mostly spectator pics or from the Kyokai here. Onosho, Kyokutaisei back in black bicycle commuter, Takekaze, leisurely on his way lower division Ryuden Fujiazuma pushed out by ? Kitataiki, Kitaharima Jokoryu Ishiura Okinoumi Hakuho Kisenosato, Kakuryu Kotoshogiku, Kakuryu Yoshikaze, Toyonoshima Kitanofuji Ojiisan Ura still looking quite small in comparison with the others Aoiyama and Ichinojo get a light slap on the face while surrounded by their 'violent' attention seekers Shibatayama, Isegahama Oguruma looking a lot fuller/healthier? chatting with Nishonoseki oyakata There are so many visible formalities here I don't know where to begin Kakuryu, Nishikigi Oosunaarashi Collecting donations for Kumamoto disaster relief Shodai, Shohozan the usually reticent Kisenosato loudly encouraging donations from the crowd outside The two ozeki Kisenosato, Kotoshogiku waiting Tochinoshin Ishiura, Endo I'm guessing that this must be the anticipated Ura/Ishiura clash Chiyoo helps out Ura Harumafuji, Toyonoshima right forearm appearing a little swollen, the yokozuna does an elbow check after that with Endo elbow bandage off, it's butsukari with Terunofuji Edited May 1, 2016 by inhashi 5
Orion Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) Referring to Akinomaki's "About 7000 watched (they don't open the whole kokugikan for spectators)" above -- they opened the downstairs and the upstairs (though the escalators weren't working when I looked) -- and both were pretty full. In previous years the upstairs was not opened, but this time I particularly noticed that right from opening time at 7:00, people were being allowed upstairs. Tochinofuji Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Can anyone ID the rikishi in the first match of the 4k video linked above for me? Thank you in advance!
d_golem Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 What is the purpose of the YDC soken? Actually what does "soken" mean? Why are the rikishis trying to grab the winning guy in the middle? Are they trying to impress a panel or something?
Katooshu Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Can anyone ID the rikishi in the first match of the 4k video linked above for me? Thank you in advance! Ishiura and Ura 1

Akinomaki Posted May 1, 2016 Author Posted May 1, 2016 Yokozuna and ozeki did follow (8GB for 50min) and a shorter one about the fund raising activities 2
SkinnySumo Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I had a good laugh when Kaisei's was cupping his left boob in pain.😂 Terunofuji seems to still be in bad condition. With him, Ama,and Hakuho in bad shape, now would be a great time for another Japan yusho. "I'm NOT looking at Kisenosato!"

Perhaps Kotoyuki can add another banner to Sadogatake beya (crossing fingers) 1
