Akinomaki Posted March 29, 2016 Author Posted March 29, 2016 (edited) A rare jungyo location on Oct. 16th: the Osaka (jungyo) basho. The name is Naniwa basho (to avoid confusion) - the link at present only works for me with a proxy (if no Japanese one is available, often a Korean proxy works as well): http://www.naniwabasho2016.jp/Same hall (whatever name it has presently) as the Haru basho. The NSK PR department has hardly any recollections of a jungyo at a hon-basho location - in 1964 in Nagoya the danpatsu-shiki of ex-sekiwake Wakamaeda took place in the same hall as the basho: apparently with intai-zumo, which like a jungyo is a hana-zumo event.A one day tournament included in the Aki jungyo was held in Osaka in the early 90s, Waka-Taka both as ozeki were in the final in 1993 - like usual in his same-heya meets with a loss by Taka.http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/column/sumo/news/1623119.html Edited March 29, 2016 by Akinomaki 2

rhyen Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Are we sure it is Takarafuji (& not the injured Homarefuji who went kyujo during the Aki basho)

rhyen Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) Terunofuji is also kyujo, was walking out the South Gate with his tsukebito as a human crutch. Edited October 4, 2016 by rhyen

rhyen Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I think those 5 bouts did him in. He used Tsuridashi 2 times (including lifting out his Rd1 opponent, Shohozan, from the center of the ring to over the straw bales in two lifts). And today's bout with Kisenosato was pretty spirited, probably worn out his knees.

Events are just PR for the Naniwa jungyo basho in Osaka on the 29th and a parade in his hometown Neyagawa-city on Oct. 16th when the jungyo is in Osaka, in the evening - but now: in addition a parade at Saitama Sakae High on Oct. 12th, when the jungyo has a break. 400m in an open car with 80 members of the school's marching band club, the course he went to school each day from the nearest train station. Kintamayama Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 (edited) Kisenosato was working Chiyonokuni over today-7 bouts of intensive sumo. Yesterday, jungyo chief Takanohana asked him to take it easy as he was intensive too, so today he let up somewhat.. "You can pull or push, hit me in the face-do your worst.." he said to Chiyonokuni who was seen flying off the dohyo at times. "He has great reflexes so my reflexes were re-kindled by him as well..He is an extremely good rikishi. It was keiko to make us both better. I'd be happy if others came to me as well, " he said. inhashi Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Two cities in Chiba, many eyes yet again are on Kisenosato. On the road Kitataiki had his 34th birthday on October 5th. His birthday wish was, "I want a thicker ginko (ohicho)". Gagamaru with fanmail Hanaregoma?, Kokonoe, and Minato oyakata oversee lower division keiko Ishiura outside the Sosa-shi venue A Taka-twin trains with Sato Takayasu, Kaisei at handshake meeting Chiyonokuni, Kakuryu Chiyoshoma who gave an impressive performance last basho as shinmakuu poses with Terunofuji Daishomaru prepared by Tokokaze Shitakubeya, rikishi sit by Daiki's akeni Daiki found elsewhere and with the beginnings of an ohicho mage! Daishowaka took this shot while helping out with the day's chanko Headcrushing of Satoyama Yobidashi Shuntaro A Chiba mascot, Shipoku, takes a picture with Ishiura and local Asahisho Keiko Nishikigi core training Arawashi always seems to have a pleasant visage Kisenosato @Kototsurugi_j was able to finally complete a collection of autographs on a fan of his own illustrations Heavily guarded Kakuryu Tochinoshin Takanohana is fashionable as always Wakanoshima, Kasugakuni Tamanoryu semi-hidden Much more visible here wearing a nice and bright yukata Yobidashi Shigeo wearing a t-shirt of himself At morning practice Onosho and brothers Takagenji, Takayoshitoshi Takayasu with Shohozan Takamisato tries on Rikito's glasses Amakaze and Sokokurai partake in some fun with the kids Caught by fans after a bath, Yoshikaze kindly obliges with an autograph Chiyonokuni after that violent practice session with Kisenosato. I'm hoping that there is a video of it floating around somewhere. Intense practice for Sato as well training with Goeido Shodai delegated to scotch tape duty A light moment with Kakuryu and Terunofuji Asahisho (taped and Goromaru ready) later on had an amusing bout with Tsurugisho (video) Within a tearfully sad story, Kotomyozan performs sumo jinku.
