Busy day at the office today. Yokozunae Harumafuji and Kakuryuu went for degeiko at Tokitsukaze beya and faced each other 13 times. Kakuryuu won 8-5 in some heated bouts. After Kakuryuu's Aki Basho yusho last year he managed only 9 and 10 wins these last two bashos. "It was good keiko. After going Kyujo last year in Osaka, I would like to gambarize this Haru Basho," he said.

Harumafuji left early as he seemed to have a right ankle injury. "I'm OK," he said. "It's been a while since I perspired like this. I'd like to do as well as I'm expected to do.." he added.

Hakuhou and Terunofuji were at Tokitsukaze beya for degeiko today. Hakuhou trained with the likes of Komusubi Takarafuji and had 16 matches showing tsuki, oshi and much mawashi grabbing, upping the pace of his preparations. "I don't intend to run after the leaders. As a Yokozuna it is my responsibility to lead the yusho race.." he said.

Kadoban Ozeki Terunofuji faced new Japanese hope Shoudai for 15 bouts and won 12. He was seen losing by yori but was also showing some strong forward movement. It looks like his right shoulder and left knee injuries are behind him. "It was better than I thought. If I wasn't confident that I can get my kachikoshi I wouldn't be entering.." he summed.

Kotoshougiku did not do any sumo today. It is being said that he injured his right heel yesterday while training against Kisenosato. He did train his upper body and was perspiring. "I'm just being extra careful. I can only go with the flow," he said. There is some worry concerning his very insufficient training so far. "I've got tomorrow and the day after.." he said. He had planned to climb Mount Rokkousan. "One must follow through with his decisions.." he said, hinting at business as usual.

And now, for another stake. Kotoshougiku will withdraw from the tournament before day 8. I think his injury is a bit more serious that he lets on (I have absolutely no proof, but my gut is churning like a blind midwife on a date with a deaf milkman), probably because he doesn't want to hurt box office sales.

We shall see..

Kotoshougiku did not train again today either. He did some squats and stuff and handed out pointers to the new recruits. "Everyone is highly motivated. I think they will be strong," he said. Regarding his right heel: "It's nothing. It's gradually getting better. I think it's a good rest.."

With his lack of training, I was going to bet he would not get 10 wins....

.....And for once, it seems I was right.
