Kintamayama Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Terunofuji will have endoscopic surgery on his injured left knee on the 18th, it was disclosed today. He will be able to leave hospital after 3-4 days. His collarbone fracture is expected to heal on its own. "I'm pretty sure he will be able to enter Haru basho healthy," said Isegahama Oyakata. 7
Taka Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 (edited) Surgery is a welcome word in sumo! I hope to see it more... Take your time Terunofuji. Forget about short term, It should be all about not hurting or diminishing that massive long term potential. Edited January 16, 2016 by Taka 3
orandashoho Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 (edited) Collarbone fractures are almost always left to heal on its own. It is painful but i heals quickly if pressure is not put on it. I guess he will not be lending his chest in keiko anytime soon. The knees are another matter. Edited January 16, 2016 by orandashoho
Dwale Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Sorry that he has to have it, but glad he's getting it done. He's still a vigorous young man, and strong as a horse. He'll bounce back like it ain't no thang.
Katooshu Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 (edited) I'm glad to hear this. He may drop in the short-term depending on the healing process but I think it gives him better odds for long-term success. If he just keeps hobbling around basho to basho it seems unlikely that he'll reach his potential. Edited January 16, 2016 by Kotooshu's Revenge
Monica Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I will hope that the Haru basho he comes to full strength! He's a great Rikishi and deserves good times at the dohyo ... :-)
Dapeng Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 He'd better stay put for the Haru. It'll be easy for him to win 10 to reclaim his title in Natsu.
Ack! Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Did Terunofuji actually have the surgery? I was surprised to see him competing this basho, if that is the case. He is obviously less than 100%, although he doesn't seem to be showing any discomfort.

SkinnySumo Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Does anyone have any info on Terunofuji? I'm really looking forward for a healthy appearance next basho with this guy. Hopefully he can stir things up a bit.
Gurowake Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 (edited) I'm not going to try to translate the entire article, but there's a headline in a google search for his name in kanji from 9 hours ago that says "照ノ富士 膝痛で春巡業全休も状態上向き「良くなってる」", which I believe means something like "Terunofuji resting during Spring Jungyo due to knee pain, and says it's getting better". SkinnySumo Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Thanks. Terunofuji and Steph Curry are just getting the worst of luck this year. Both have made great advances in their sports but are being kept back by their injuries. At least with Curry he's already down in the books, but with Teru there are alot more yusho to be won and a rank to achieve...
