I am the Yokozuna Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Until he retires, I am hoping for an Ikioi's victory. Whether it is first Japanese win in a very long time, I do not care.
hamcornheinz Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Ikioi hasn't even picked up his first kinboshi. Hes one of my top 3 favorite rikishi but c'mon guys, hes not going to even make ozeki. 3
Atenzan Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Until he retires, I am hoping for an Ikioi's victory. Whether it is first Japanese win in a very long time, I do not care. If a non-Japanese gets the Hatsu makuuchi yusho, Japan's yusho-less streak will extend to a full decade. Tochiazuma last won it in January 2006.
Seijakuzan Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) He's pretty much a bigger Yoshikaze - minus the kinboshi. But he does have another 4 years to start beating yokozunae quicker than Yoshikaze has, so plenty of time to prove me wrong. How is this even remotely correct? Ikioi hasn't even picked up his first kinboshi. Hes one of my top 3 favorite rikishi but c'mon guys, hes not going to even make ozeki. So, do you agree with me or disagree with me? ;-) He is 29 while Yoshikaze is 33, and Yoshikaze has gotten all his kinboshi at ages 32-33, while Ikioi still has none. Ikioi is almost 20cm taller and 20kg heavier, so he is indeed bigger. Both are perennial kanto-sho contenders and crowd favorites who win with a variety of techniques and with high gambarization. I'd say that I am "remotely correct" at worst... Edited December 20, 2015 by Seijakuzan
