WAKATAKE Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 There is no doubt that Hakuho is considered one of, if not the most dominant rikishi and yokozuna in sumo. So just how powerful is he? Where he is in the record books speak for himself. So let us take a look at what Hakuho has accomplished, how far he can go, and what records he can still look to rewrite as long as he is still active. Most Makuuchi Yusho: 35 as of Kyushu 2015 (1st place). The sky is the limit. Has said his current goal is number 36 as that would tie the equivalent of what his father won as a Mongolian sumo wrestler. Averages at least 3 yusho per calendar year. Could possibly reach yusho number 40 in 2016, more likely 2017. Most Zensho Yusho: 11 as of Kyushu 2015 (1st place). Again, the sky is the limit. This one is more unpredictable so there is no good way to make a projection. Most Consecutive Yusho: 7 as of Kyushu 2015 (tied for 1st place with Asashoryu). Also tied for 3rd place with Taiho as he had another streak of 6 consecutive yusho. Most Ketteisen (Yusho Playoff): 10 as of Kyushu 2015 (tied for 1st place with Takanohana II). Most Career Wins: 946 wins as of Kyushu 2015 (5th place). 4th place record holder is Kitanoumi with 951 wins. Needs 6 wins to pass Kitanoumi. 1st place record holder is Kaio with 1047 wins. Projected to pass Kaio in the latter half of 2017. Most Makuuchi Wins: 852 wins as of Kyushu 2015 (2nd place). 1st place record holder is Kaio with 879 wins. Needs 28 wins to pass Kaio. Projected to pass Kaio in the first half of 2016. Most Wins in a Calendar Year: 86 wins (2009, 2010). 1st place. Most Consecutive Wins: 63 wins (tied for 2nd place with Tanikaze). Most Makuuchi Bouts: 1000 bouts as of Kyushu 2015. 10th place record holder is Tochinonada with 1182 bouts. Needs 183 bouts to pass Tochinonada. Can pass Tochinonada on day 3 of Hatsu 2018 if he does not miss any bouts before that. Most Basho as a Yokozuna: 50 basho as of Kyushu 2015 (4th place). 3rd place record holder is Taiho with 58 basho. Needs 9 basho to pass Taiho. Can pass Taiho if ranked on the banzuke in Natsu 2017. 6

WAKATAKE Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Forgot to add three more records. Most Consecutive Bouts as a Yokozuna: 722 bouts (1st place). Passed by Kitanoumi who was the original record holder at 653. Streak started from his yokozuna debut at Nagoya 2007 and stopped on day 2 of Nagoya 2015. Most Bouts as Yokozuna: 737 bouts (2nd place). 1st place record holder is Kitanoumi at 818. Needs 82 more bouts to pass Kitanoumi. Can pass Kitanoumi on day 7 of Kyushu 2016 if he does not miss a bout before then. Most Wins as Yokozuna: 658 wins (2nd place). 1st place record holder is Kitanoumi at 670. Needs 13 more wins to pass Kitanoumi. Could possibly pass Kitanoumi in Hatsu 2016 if he records at least 13 wins. 2
