Baruto had his first entertainer appearance in a leading role - he was the sole guide at a trip to Nara, even did the narration.

It got a "kawaii" response on the net.

Baruto

will start a career as entertainer in Japan: he joins Office Kitano, of Beat Takeshi (Kitano).

He appeared as one of several guests without much of a role in a number of variety programs already Edited by Akinomaki

Baruto defeated MMA veteran Kazuyuki Fujita by unanimous decision, moving to the quarterfinals of Rizin's openweight tournament (where he could meet the likes of Mirko Cro Cop or Wanderlai Silva). I haven't  seen the fight, but the reports Ive read make it sound similar to his first fight (messy and slow-paced without serious damage done), although with Baruto taking more punches than before.

Baruto was in Tetsuko's heya on Oct. 25th.

He's often on TV now, for traveling features, and the other day on a program for checking people's meals, he confused it with the travel series. The city he visited was Saku: in Estonia a town of the same name exists and the two cities have established friendly relations. Baruto after that was named friendly relations ambassador by Saku-shi.  http://www.shinmai.co.jp/news/nagano/20161111/KT161110SJI090013000.php

Baruto was confronted with a game character, Haruto. http://www.gamer.ne.jp/news/201611110014/

Here's Baruto crushing an apple (or maybe tomato? Can't tell). Take that, apple.
Most likely a promo for the upcoming Rizin MMA event.

Baruto won his 2nd round fight today 3-0 by decision against Tsuyoshi Kousaka. With this he proceeds to the semi-final on New Year's Eve. http://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/etc/20161229-OHT1T50219.html

booing from the crowd - and he gets so annoyed that he says "day before yesterday"/ototoi instead of "day after tomorrow"/asatte about his next fight - to more booing

Actually these links go to pages with the same picture cropped in different ways, with a lot of text in Japanese which I can't read.

As one of King's Constant Readers I am interested in this production of course, and I wish I could go and see it.
In the book (and the film with Tom Hanks) John Coffee was black, a seasonal farm worker in conservative rural America in a time of racial discrimination. In the play, we will see a Caucasian giant among Japanese -- perhaps such a man would be subject to the same kind of distrust and exclusion if he is dimwitted (and not rescued by a sumo scout). A lot of the subtext in the story is typically American, I'm not sure it would translate well.

Doesn't he look young! Amazing that he has a sumo career behind him already. I wish him well.

He is young. He's only 32.

Mind you, these days anyone younger than 40 looks like a teenager to me, so...

Baruto will appear in the stage production of Steven King's The Green Mile and play John Coffey

That day actually was the day of the premiere in the Globe Theatre in Tokyo - after Tokyo it will go to Kyoto. https://www.greenmile-stage.jp/

Baruto's performance was called very credible (more pics:) http://enterstage.jp/news/2017/10/008060.html

Spoiler

The pics were all from the dress rehearsal. Baruto and the leading actor appeared on the TBS news show Vivit on the 29th: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGMUuX9DZKA&t=85m (3min., bad sound)
