Homarenishiki's prospects (split from Videos thread)

This is a great discussion. I find the different views of fellow posters about Brody to be very insightful. I'm very new to sumo, so I can't analyze Brody's style to draw any conclusions about his potential. I''ll just say this much: Good luck, Brody. It's not an easy life, and to get to the top means going through divisions of cutthroat pros. Hang in there, buddy. I'd REALLY love to see him in juryo (or perhaps even in makuuchi!) in a couple of years.

This is right before I went to chat with him for a bit. He is big, he needs to fill out, if he could bulk up like Tochinoshin and Sand Storm it would help, he said he wanted to go to the gym but he was not allowed to at that point. He hasn't been training and he has a lot to learn but anything can happen. Did I think Shohozan or Yoshikaze would improve so much recently... I did not. He does seem stiff right now but I did notice he was a bit more relaxed than before, he could really improve a lot now that he can train again. He also had to get used to going to Japan for the first time, I talked to him about that. I know how stressful it was for me to go to work there, I showed up at the airport and a guy picked me up, took me a couple months to even relax a bit. So we shall see, ganbate!

Since both me and Kuroyama have talked about injuries perhaps sandstorm and tochinoshin aren't the best examples.... lol. Power sumo just doesn't last, even Chiyonofuji had to learn to have a wider pallete to avoid injury.

Well forgive me if I I haven't hung on your every word. When I met him I thought that he needs to bulk up and be for formidable physically, he is tall but he could do so much more. That can never hurt. I would never advise someone to NOT be a technically dominant rikishi. All these people in this thread seem to like bending people's words around to prove a point, what is yours? I didn't say that he should just become all power and get injured, why do you feel like you have to imply that I did? Just keep your childish arguments to yourself.

My only point was that your point wasn't that well made, which I think you know and are trying to make up for.
