Hakuhou's henka talk

The crowd at the stadium was booing loudly.

Kitanofuji, who was commentating on the radio: "I think he meant to hit with his right and go for the uwate.. Still, I'd like to have seen him going head on. I think Hakuhou has bad memories from last basho (when he lost to Yoshikaze). He has to take this booing and think about it. People see it as a henka - nothing he can do about that.."

Yoshikaze: "I felt 'no way'.. From the Yokozuna's point of view, me falling like that must have baffled him."

Kitanofuji: "I think so too.. I think Hakuhou better not go out tonight.."

Yoshikaze: "It was not a henka. I couldn't hit him. As a result of my wish to go at him with all my might, my timing was totally off. I never dreamed he would shift.. I regret that the much anticipated attraction turned out to be boring.."

Very classy of Yoshikaze to deny it was a henka and even take part of the blame. I will note that although Yoshikaze used to henka quite often I can't remember the last time he's done that. It's rare to see someone's sumo improve in his 30s, but his certainly has.

As for Hakuho, eh. According to reports he handled Yoshikaze with ease during keiko sessions. At this point in his career I give him wide latitude.

It basically looked like the Harumafuji Henka only that Yoshikaze fell (maybe Hakuhos standard slap hit him dizzy?) before anything could happen. Kinda sucks now, but I think it is obvious it was not a completly blatant (Kakuryu like) Henka from Hakuho, except you just want to complain about him^^ Still, did not look good, but even Hakuho makes mistakes from time to time.

Incidentally, would anyone know the last time Hakuho henka'd? I remember someone posted him pulling one on Kisenosato after Kise had been dicking around with a matta, but don't know how old that was.

Seems to have driven the lesson home too. Unless it's just because I can't watch live anymore, it seems to me Kise dicks around much less often at the tachiai than he used to.

I had the fortune to be in da house that night and the audience's reaction said it all; they didn't like it. Not one bit.

I was sitting on the east side facing Hakuho and his sideway movement was very clear.
