Endo has the trouble of being very popular not only with the fans, but also with the other rikishi: they are eager to face him at the basho, to have a good chance to get about 20 kensho.
Still he managed to get more than half of them this year, 549 of the 1060 kensho on his bouts so far.
At m4 it will be more difficult to get again half of them - he just wants to focus on trying to reach sanyaku.

Nah, Endo is still leading by far thanks to be in the "kawaii" (cute) category.

This can't be said about Mitakeumi, who I would put at the other end of the "kawaii" scale, right in the opposite "kowai" (scary) category - maybe like Ichinojo.

That's an assumption which isn't necessarily true. Especially in the joi-jin a rikishi will easily end kachi-koshi but winning less than half of the kensho in his bouts (no wonder, considering that most of those kensho will be in bouts against yokozuna and ozeki, Hakuho in particular, but most wins are coming against those below ozeki).

As usual this year, this basho will have the most ever kensho for a Kyushu basho, maybe also for a regional basho, around 1550. That top is now Nagoya this year with 1509 (real top last basho with 1979), and the numbers this time are promising to surpass that (if we don't get a kyujo by Endo early in the basho - a yokozuna dropout may only be the 2nd worst that can happen).

This time Hakuho is back to the top for the number of fixed kensho on his bouts with 181, Endo follows with 180.

The number 3 though is unusual: local ozeki Kotoshogiku has attracted 161.

The local komusubi Yoshikaze has 2 new sponsors as well, one from a deodorant maker.

Sadanofuji has also got one, Dia-Salt - we might hear several funny comments if he faces Aminishiki, who has Hakata-Salt as a sponsor.

But other than many thought, Mitakeumi has only one firm for only a single day of the basho so far. If he performs well he might attract more though.

And another thing to look out for: Nagatanien will have new banners for the Endo bouts, adapted to the new Endo-hug doll CM campaign CMs which start on shonichi.

Kotoshogiku having the 3rd most kensho for the basho makes sense since he's from Fukuoka. I'm not sure if the home advantage will help him or hurt him this basho as that kind of pressure to perform can affect performance. Goeido being kadoban will distract a little bit, at least.

more than 100 fixed kensho on his bouts, Harumafuji has 30.

Harumafuji is frustrated: on day 5 Hakuho had 30 (it's Hakuho), Kakuryu 24 (it was the last bout) and he just 1 kensho (2nd to last bout).

Against Tochiozan, for which Hakuho got the top limit of 50 kensho on day 1 (last bout).

Maybe an all time low for a yokozuna

Harumafuji when not in the last bout of the day (except day 1) gets only a fraction of what Hakuho gets on kensho, less than some ozeki.

Rewatching the NHK footage on Jason's All-Sumo channel on YT, I can now tell that Osunaarashi got 3 Kensho for this bout, if anybody wanted to know.

Well, considering that kensho is a cheaper form of advertising and that the yokozuna bouts are on at the peak viewing times for ozumo, I wouldn't have thought that one sekitori's lack of popularity would interfere with the chance to promote a company or/and it's products. I was begining to think that perhaps Harumafuji had done something to upset corporate Japan.

Kakuryu has approximately the same number of kensho per win as Harumafuji, slightly less actually. Harumafuji has had 17 when he's in the last bout (Days 3 and 6), but only 3 on the day he lost and on Day 5, in which he went second-last. When he's the first Yokozuna to go, he's had 11 (Day 1) and 10 (4). And he gets one day less of being last because of the rotation being reset on Day 15: Kakuryu will go last on Day 13 when the two longest running Yokozuna meet, Hakuho last on Day 14 when the two weaker Yokozuna meet, and Hakuho vs. Kakuryu will be the last match of the tournament. There's something a little screwy with their system of deciding who goes last when it consistently produces the result of having 2 of the 3 Yokozuna matches not be the last ones of the day. Why don't they change things up given that they mess it all up anyway on Day 15?
