Particularly, who is that at aout 2 minutes with the play-over? Where is the announcer from? And, I though my own people can be tiresome.
Kaminariyuki Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Oh wait, Ozzyman and he said "Craikee" I guess I must know where he's from.
Benihana Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 (edited) Aoiyama vs. Chiyonokuni doing the split, Nagoya 2013 Kinjo knocking out Maeta, Hatsu 2017. Easily in the top 10 of sumo brutality. Edited May 10, 2020 by Benihana 1 1

The second bout (0:32) is Takanohana defeating Akebono on Day 15, Kyushu 1994. This win secured the ozeki his second straight yusho and an automatic Yokozuna promotion, thus the huge number of zabuton being thrown. The last bout (3:11) is Byamba body slamming Kelly Gneiting at the 2013 US Sumo Open. 1
hakutorizakura Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 And anybody knows who fought in the gyoji bowling (twice!) bout? That other bout surely was one of Hakuho's stupidest loss! Tsuridashi again and again, only to get exhausted and okuridashi'ed

That's interesting... It seems to be the same guy (not that sure about the rikishis though), but indeed his kimono changed color. The bout appears to be torinaoshi, and this is supported by the commentating and on screen text (mata mirarenakatta / again he couldn't see it). Could it be that the gyoji did change his kimono?? Or maybe simply the video coloring was a bit off...

It sure deserved a prize!
Chanko Thief Posted June 7, 2020 Posted June 7, 2020 I’m sure a lot of you have seen this one already, but it’s always good for a laugh. Hakuho bowling: 4 1

sumojoann Posted June 7, 2020 Posted June 7, 2020 I don't know if this video of Hakuho playing basketball has been posted before. Wikipedia says that as a child, Hakuho had no training in Mongolian wrestling as his father wanted him to try other sports. He concentrated on basketball, although from a young age he liked to read sumo magazines. He told his father he wanted one day to be as big as a sumo wrestler. 2 2
Katooshu Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Nice picture....I had read that his parents were both massively obese like he was, but she looks good there.
Seiyashi Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Seeing all of Hakuho's other sports activities in this thread makes me feel he won the genetic lottery not just for sumo, but also for sport. He seems a born natural at most of it, unless someone now tells me he went to a bowling alley and prepared for a day straight just for a TV appearance.

Yes, the 2005 new year grand sumo review show where Asashoryu hosted the ozeki and Hakuho and co were bowling.

I don't know how often, or even if they play, anymore, but there is a basketball at Miyagino beya. It was incongruously on display in the stairwell with some trophies and other odds and ends when I visited in early 2020. Back then, they might have been impressed by the old man's 3-point shot, but now I haven't touched a basketball, myself, in fourteen months. Not even certain I could throw a ball all the way to the basket from the 3-point line. 1

In 2015, or thereabouts, I read a newspaper article that said his reaction times had been measured at about the same as those of Usain Bolt, the world record Jamaican sprinter. As a very early sumo fan, I didn't quite believe it. And, then we watched him for a bit and decided it could easily be true. I just hunted for corroboration but didn't find it quickly. Could be a tall tale. The two newspaper articles I scanned were riddled with errors about sumo, which I fear is all too common.
