Absolutely, there are even bigger onsen type baths with many more. Japan is a very soak together culture.

I always thought it was done in an environment with naturally or artificially running water, and with enough distance for the water to naturally distort the vision of.... well. But I guess it's a culture thing, hey, who's to judge.
