wuli Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Hak looks a bit nervous, hey this is a nice bird but you can have it back now. The first pic is like when you hear a joke and don't get it, but kind of laugh with everyone else. why experienced mongolians may be apprehensive when near raptors especially naked mongolians : ) 1

Dwale Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) This thread was a great idea. I have to admit, though, some rikishi I've been watching for years, I didn't recognize... because they were smiling. EDIT: Do I even want to see a picture of Kisenosato smiling, or is that weird and scary? Edited November 18, 2015 by Dwale

orandashoho Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I love the funny pictures in Aminishiki's blog. I don't know the name of the rikishi who is often in the background leaning forward a bit with a peculiar dazed expression on his face... hilarious.

Could be, except that he's in a different heya and in the official pictures he is much more serious-looking. I think it may be Terutsuyoshi. Edited November 18, 2015 by orandashoho
rhyen Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Definitely Satoyama, one of the few hirsute rikishi AND one of the few smaller rikishi.
Naganoyama Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Satoyama is almost as much of a clown as Aminishiki. He's great in those photos!

808morgan Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 (edited) Well this isn't a funny photo of Kyokutenho but I ran across a fan who is sad he is gone. Treblemaker Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 (edited) I can't get over how young ex-Chiyotaikai looks! Holy broccoli. He could pass for maybe 23-24. Kotooshu looks like he could still go a few bouts. It's always wonderful to see these people out of context. It just adds to the enjoyment factor. Edited November 23, 2015 by Treblemaker

808morgan Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 What kind of bath is that? Sulphur? Well all the onsen have various minerals, not sure if any are specifically sulfur, all onsen must have sulfur being volcanic?

I saw him at some event handing out food and he was very nice and smiled. Very strange for us to see! But after that day I thought he was a nice guy under the image they keep by the dohyo.

Irakusamaru Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 What kind of bath is that? Sulphur? Well all the onsen have various minerals, not sure if any are specifically sulfur, all onsen must have sulfur being volcanic? The english Wikipedia article on onsens suggests that some can have higher concentration of a particular mineral - be it sulphur or iron or whatever. I went to one in Nozawa-onsen that was a distinct milky blue colour and smelled of sulphur. None of the other nearby onsens had this characteristic.
