Kuroyama Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Myōgiryū… harite is part of sumō so I don’t know what he’s talking about. I like seeing a good slapfest. I think he hurt his butt when he landed or something. 1

Kokkai did.. And wildly too, as did Chiyotaikai every now and then. I think Rohou did too.. 1

Right! Have you seen Osunaarashi's thrusting attacks lately? They look like he is about to beat up his opponents. I appreciate good oshi-sumo rikishi, like Akebono or Chiyotaikai, but Osunaarashi's punching style is unorthodox, to say at least. I absolutely agree with Myogiryu.
Kintamayama Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 (edited) More Day 11 talk: Kakuryuu, winning with a a henka and getting booed loudly by the fans, looking quite unhappy: "I didn't plan for that to happen before I mounted the dohyo. It was a split-second decision. This type of sumo doesn't lead to anything.." More Ikioi: "Today I was able to remain calm and do sumo. When my opponent did a move I didn't like, I was able to respond and move well, and that was good.." Edited September 23, 2015 by Kintamayama
dingo Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 (edited) Since day 3 when his winning streak started, he has not washed his hair or shaved. "My head itches, but I'm feeling great!!" One could say his head is... Itchy-no-jo! (In jonokuchi...) Edited September 23, 2015 by dingo 2

Jakusotsu Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Terao didn’t swing from the side? I thought I’d seen him KO a few opponents with good swings from the side…I can't remember seeing something like that, but I've been only a casual observer in his heyday.

Because slaps are so much worse than taking it to the face or throat... Anyone who practices martial arts also knows that defending against hits from the outside are a hell of a lot easier than defending a flurry of shots to the face. Myogiryu is just being a sore loser, and he of all people should be quick enough to close the gap when someone like Oosuna exposes his center while taking outside shots. 2
Jakusotsu Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 All Myogiryu was saying that it isn't sumo, and I'm not quite ready to disagree. 1

Not that I agree with Miyogiryu here, but I don't think you typically defend against harite in sumo, even if it's coming from the side and easy to defend in other martial arts. Defending against an attack in a high line like this leaves your belt very vulnerable. Once your aite gets the grip he wants, you've usually lost. Better to weather the storm and prevent that kind of attack by forcing yourself in closer.

evilwaldo Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 More like swinging two clubs. Given Osunaarashi's upper body strength I am sure that is what it feels like. His strength is more upper body.
